Mr. Walter Earnest Thompson age 67 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 4, 2017 at his home following an extended illness. Earnest was born on March 4, 1950 in Hiawassee, GA., the son of the late Robert Thompson and the late Nannie Lou McClure Thompson. He was a lifelong resident of Union County. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Earnest loved reading his bible and was a devout prayer warrior. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Thompson, his parents and also grandparents, Hester and Walter McClure and Roy Thompson, sisters, Lena Thompson, Barbara Sosebee, Frances Taylor and Ruth Miller, brothers, Willard, George and Leroy Thompson. Earnest was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Thompson are his loving wife and best friend, Linda Nix Thompson of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Wayne and Kim Thompson, one daughter, Renea Beavers all of Blairsville, one sister and brother in law, Becky and Kenneth Picklesimer, two brothers and sisters in law, Jimmy and Judy Thompson all of Blairsville, Fred and Amanda Thompson of Young Harris, four grandchildren, Jordan Thompson, Makayla, C.J. and Dallas beavers, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Jackie Chastain officiating. Special music will be presented by Jackie and Jeremiah Chastain, Jordan Thompson, Davey and Kenneth Arrowood. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jordan Thompson, C.J. Beavers, Jeremiah Chastain, Anthony Thompson, Derrick Arrowood, Kevin Russell, Dustin Thompson and Michael Nix. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery where he will rest next to his daughter Ann. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-9:00 pm.
