Mrs. Iva “Ivie” Viola Potts: Obituary

Iva “Ivie” Viola Potts age 92 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2017 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Potts was born on July 25, 1925 in Blairsville, GA., the daughter of the late Felton Hughes and the late Roxie Bridges Hughes. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Ivie loved cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, word search puzzles and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the perfect Proverbs 31 woman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Horace Potts in 2003, a grandson, Matthew Potts, two brothers, Alfred and Dennis Hughes and a sister, Edith Rich. Ivie was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Potts are two sons and daughters in law, Ray and Sue Potts, Michael and Brandy Potts, one daughter and son in law, Mary and David Burnette all of Blairsville, one sister, Louise Adams of Blairsville, eight grandchildren, Robert Burnette, Marc Burnette, Christal Chastain, Andrew Burnette, Tracy Potts, Gerald Potts, Jeff Potts and Aaron Potts, eighteen great grandchildren, her kids at the Nursing Home, who she dearly loved, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at 3:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Ray Potts and Gerald Potts officiating. Special music will be presented by the Bethlehem Church Choir and grandsons, Kevin, Zach, Justin, Ben and Will Potts. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Robert Burnette, Marc Burnette, Andrew Burnette, Jeff Potts, Kevin Potts, Zach Potts, Will Potts, Mark Chastain. Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Potts, Cheyenne Burnette, Ashlyn Burnette, Sierra Burnette, Campbell Burnette, Cora Burnette, Coleman Burnette, Cooper Burnette, Colt Chastain, Case Burnette, Cody Chastain, Kolbey Burnette, Korbin Burnette and Callen Burnette, Justin Potts, Ben Potts and Aaron Potts. Interment will follow in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Horace. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Nursing Home Activity Fund in Ivie’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
