UPDATE: Irma Turns West; UCS Closed Tuesday; Watch Jose

Blairsville, GA – On the 16th Anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Irma weakens to a tropical storm and is moving west while Hurricane Jose dances around in the Atlantic, but is projected to head towards the US East Coast.

Union County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, but will reopen on Wednesday.

A tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Union County. The current projection for Irma’s effect on Blairsville/Union County is wind gusts of up to 47 mph and 2.0 inches of rainfall. The heaviest impacts from Irma for Union County will occur between afternoon/evening Monday through Tuesday morning.
