Mr. Earnest Ray “Nut” Shook age 86 of Gum Log Rd. Young Harris passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 9, 2019 in the Pruitt Health Care following an extended illness. Mr. Shook was born on July 18, 1932 in Young Harris, GA., the son of the late Alexander Stephens Shook and the late Lula Estelle Hyatt Shook. He was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. He owned and operated Ray Shook Garage for over fifty years. Nut loved trading guns, knives and anything to do with cars. He also loved ice cream, cooking and spending time with family and his many friends. Nut was always a people person. Ray was a  fifty plus year member of the Stephens Masonic Lodge # 414 F&AM, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Bald Mtn. Chapter 349 and also a Shriner. He was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Margaret June Puett Shook May 20, 2015 on their 64 th wedding anniversary, four brothers, Jack, T.J., J.W. and Roy J. (Todd) Shook, three sisters, Vara Lee Gibson, Minnie V. Mulkey and Lois Parker, his father in law and mother in law,James Benton and Beulah Townsend Puett, sister in laws, Edna Sparks Shook, Ruby MaGaha Shook, Shirley McClure Shoo, Glenda Nichols Shoo and Dorothy Puett Gibson, brother in laws, Clyde Gibson, Walter Mulkey, Ben Parker Sr., Donald Sampson, Albert Graves and Edwin Puett. Mr. Shook was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Shook are one son and daughter in law, Ronnie Ray and Pam Shook of Young Harris, two daughters and one son in law, Rhonda Charlene Shook of Young Harris, Robbin Rene’ and Chad Cook of Young Harris, four grandchildren, Jordan Ray James Shook, Makenna Rae Cook, Logan Alexander Cook and Marley Alyssa Cook all of Young Harris, several nieces, nephews, special friend and caregiver, Glenda (Moosey) Clayton, special niece, Judy Mulkey Henderson, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be on Saturday July 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Rogers, Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Billy Stiles officiating. Special music will be presented by Lora Fox. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, David Rogers, Logan Cook, Chad Cook, Wayne Collins and Mike Crenshaw. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stephens Masonic Lodge # 414 F&AM. Interment will follow in the Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery with the Stephens Masonic Lodge conducting Masonic Rites. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9:00 pm.
