City Council Qualifying

Blairsville, Ga – Qualifying closed for Blairsville City Council election on August 21 for Nov. 5, 2019. This year four individuals qualified for the three council seats up for election.

The three incumbents Rhonda Mahan, Betty Easter, and Mary Ruth Cook are all running to win their seats on Nov. 5.

The one newcomer and challenger is Blairsville resident Frank Pack.

City council seats are decided by a plurality vote or the top three candidates will win the three open seats.

The term up for election will run from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2023. Residents of the city of Blairsville can vote on Nov. 5 at City Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

During the last election cycle, 30 votes were cast out of approximately 600 residents. However, that occurred in a run-off for Martha Cone’s seat, who had passed away in office. In 2017, the three councilmembers up for election ran unopposed.

The fourth candidate will give Blairsville residents a chance to decide who they want to sit on the council.
