   Mr. John Harold Garrett age 80 of Old Gum Log Rd. Blairsville passed away on Sunday December 1, 2019 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Garrett was born on Jan. 27, 1939 in Suches, GA., the son of the late Henry Garrett and the late Mary Harkins Garrett. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. John was a veteran of the US Army with over twenty three years of service. He loved fishing, hunting and loafering with his cousin Earl. He was preceded in death by his parents and also three sisters, Lizzie Grizzle, Essie Davis and Hattie Garrett, three brothers, Willard, Leaford and William Garrett. John was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Garrett are his loving wife and best friend of fifty two years, Dorothy Sue Ross Garrett of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Shirley and Scott Durrett of Tulsa, OK., Hillary Garrett of Bixby, OK., three sisters and brothers in law, Shelby and J.W. Jenkins of Bunnell, FL., Helen and Ronnie Abercrombie of Suches, Edith and Thomas Bradford of Calhoun, one grandson, Ryan Campbell, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. George Cline officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be the US Army Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church in John’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.
