BLAIRSVILLE, GA – No reported injures after horrendous six vehicle, five cars and one semi-truck, wreck off of Hwy. 129 South in front of General Supply, Inc. store and Enchanted Forest boutique at 10:18 a.m.

The accident took place in the mid-morning on Dec. 18 when a semi-truck hauling plywood slammed on its brakes to avoid hitting a car turning onto Town Mountain Road from Hwy. 129/Gainesville Hwy. The truck ran into the ditch just before General Supply, which loosened the load of plywood and sent it flying into the store’s parking lot, road, and into the five parked cars.

The force of the plywood lifted this SUV.

The force of impact lifted a parked silver Chevrolet SUV off the ground and onto a parked red Subaru. The other two cars a blue Jeep Cherokee Sport and flat-bed truck took massive damage. The Jeep’s entire front end was crumpled and the white Ford flat-bed also took on front end damage.

According to the Georgia State Patrol report, the semi-truck was traveling too closely to the car turning onto Town Mountain Road and could not safely stop. It then swerved to the west side of the road into the ditch and struck the culvert. This caused the plywood to become unsecured and crash into the General Supply reader sign and the vehicles in the parking lot.

The gray Audi and red Subaru were pushed south through the lot and into each other. The Subaru also stuck the left side of the Chevrolet SUV.

The driver of the Chevrolet was standing outside at the time of the accident and tried to run away from the debris. A piece of plywood did knock her down, but she is not believed to be injured and didn’t receive any treatment.

The Audi hit the front of the flat-bed truck and came to an “uncontrolled stop” facing east on top of the Subaru and flat-bed.

The Jeep experienced a direct hit from the plywood and was pushed into the flat-bed. This vehicle stopped in it’s original parking spot.

The semi-truck made a “controlled stop” facing south partially on west shoulder of Hwy. 129 and in the parking lot.

Aside from striking the five cars, plywood damaged three pallets of soil, dog kennel, mailbox, store banner, reader sign, and granite sign.

General Supply posted on their Facebook page, “Everyone has to remember that the brakes on big truck do not stop the truck they only slow you down. We thank God no one was hurt. This was a Christmas miracle.”

Crews worked late into the night cleaning up the parking lot and removing cars. Enchanted Forest owners told FYN that people were there as late as 11 p.m.

Thankfully, no one was injured during this accident.

FYN has placed a request for the accident report from Georgia State Patrol and will update the story when we have it.

Last month, another wreck happened in the same spot when a Jeep hit the store’s mulch wall.It’s placed in front of the store if driving south on Hwy. 129 in part to protect customers and cars from potential wrecks. The current speed limit for the area is 55 MPH.
