Teen fatality in one-vehicle wreck near Blood Mountain

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga – Residents of Union County have expressed an outpouring of support over the tragic death of Alondra Gonzalez, 17, after her one-vehicle wreck on US Hwy 129 Nand .4 miles from Ga 180.
Gonzalez worked at Nani’s Restaurant and originally from Puerto Rico; she wanted to eventually join the Air Force.
When reached for comment the owner of Nani’s Marife Arrazcaeta, said of Gonzalez:
“She was an exceptional human being, beautiful, smart, bubbly, smiley, and always happy. Working since she was 14, she was hardworking, study to get into the Air Force. Friendly with everyone, including our customers. She touched our lives in the year and half that she worked with us. Her mother is a single parent, and Alondra helps her with everything in the house. She left a void in our hearts, and she will be deeply missed. God, we have another Angel in heaven watching over us.”
Hundreds of individuals reached out to Arrazcaeta over social media, expressing how much they loved Gonzalez at Nani’s.
“So very sorry to hear this, she was a very friendly and beautiful soul. Prayers for all her friends and family to be comforted,” commented one patron.
“She was my favorite waitress; she always gave good recommendations and had a bubbly personality. I’m sad to hear this. Much love to her family. Stay strong,” said another.
The wreck occurred around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020. The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) report stated that the vehicle, a blue Toyota Scion, lost control while negotiating a right curve. The car rotated counterclockwise, moved across all lanes, and traveled approximately 193.7 feet. It then continued to move another estimated 96.3 feet off the west side of the roadway and overturned on the passenger side before hitting the first tree.
After impact, the vehicle traveled another approximate 21 feet, rotated clockwise, and overturned on the driver’s side before stopping against two trees.
Witnesses at the scene reported, to GSP Trooper SFC Ensley, that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed while moving through the curve. He arrived on the scene at 7:38 p.m. after receiving the dispatch call at 7:05 p.m. Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies also responded to the scene of the accident.
Union County EMS arrived at 7:16 p.m. The initial notification call went out at 7:01 p.m. Gonzalez’s injuries were determined fatal on the scene. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the wreck.
Nani’s will open again on Thursday, and a memorial will take place within a few weeks. The owners have established a fund to help cover Gonzalez’s funeral costs. They ask for checks to be made out to Cochran’s Funeral Home and ask for Arrazcaeta if leaving donations at the restaurant.
