Union County High School in Blairsville, Georgia, has appointed Rob Stowe as the new head football coach for the Panthers. The Union County Board of Education approved his hiring on February 20, 2025, following the departure of former head coach Michael Perry to Flowery Branch High School.
Stowe brings over two decades of coaching experience to Union County. His coaching career includes head coaching positions at Gilmer High School from 2003 to 2006 and Wilcox County High School from 2019 to 2024. At Gilmer, Stowe faced challenges, recording a 7-33 record over four seasons. However, his tenure at Wilcox County was notably successful; he led the Patriots to a 50-24 record over six seasons, securing back-to-back region titles in 2021 and 2022, and guiding the team to a state semifinal appearance in 2021.
In addition to his head coaching roles, Stowe has served as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Rabun County and Stephens County. During his time at Rabun County, he contributed to the team’s first playoff appearance in over a decade in 2012 and a quarterfinal run in 2015, the first since 1998.
Union County’s football program has experienced a seven-year playoff streak, with a 4-7 record in the 2024 season, showcasing potential with a young roster. Stowe aims to build on this foundation, striving to lead the Panthers to their first-ever region title and advance beyond the second round of the state playoffs.
Union County Athletic Director Mandy Hunter expressed enthusiasm about Stowe’s appointment, stating, “His ability to build competitive programs, develop student-athletes, and foster a culture of excellence—both on and off the field—makes him the perfect fit for our football program, and we are excited for the future of Union County football under his leadership.”
Stowe’s familiarity with the region, being a Toccoa native, and his extensive coaching background are expected to positively impact the Union County football program as they prepare for the upcoming season.
