SUCHES, Ga. — Firefighters responded to a structure fire Saturday, Aug. 29, on Highway 60 in Suches, where occupants and their dogs were able to safely escape the residence before fire crews arrived.

Union County 911 received a report of the fire, prompting the dispatch of Union County Fire Stations 5 and 11, with Stations 2 and 3 providing additional support.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from the residence. Due to low visibility inside the home, crews quickly deployed a hose line and used a thermal imaging camera to locate the fire.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze while using a minimal amount of water in an effort to limit additional property damage. Crews then ventilated the residence to clear smoke from the home.

Officials reported that the residence sustained minor damage.

No injuries or fatalities were reported, and all occupants and pets were safely evacuated.

The cause of the fire has not yet been officially determined.

Fire officials praised the responding crews for their quick and effective response.
