Mr. Melvin Clarence “Red” Beck age 80 of Souther Meadow Drive Blairsville passed away peacefully on Monday Jan. 18, 2016 at Lazy R Assisted living following a brief illness. Mr. Beck was born on March 24, 1935 in Chamblee, GA., the son of the late Clarence William Beck and the late Marie Hardy Beck. He was a veteran of the US Marines of the Korean War. Melvin loved deep sea fishing and woodworking. Melvin was a loving father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Webb Beck in 2003 and by a daughter, Becky McMurray. He had been a member and Deacon of the Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain, GA. for over twenty years. He was very active in his church, especially Missions. Surviving Mr. Beck are one son and daughter in law, David and Nell Butler of Blairsville, two brothers, Ronald Beck of Boston, MA., Jim Beck of Marianna, FL., five grandchildren, Sherry Anderson, Michael Butler, Matthew Butler, Seth Rhine and Derek Rhine, nine great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive. A graveside service and interment will be held on Saturday Jan. 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Resthaven Cemetery in Decatur, GA. with the Rev. Jerry Scarborough officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the US Marine Core. He will rest next to his beloved wife, Margarett. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be to the Wounded Warrior Project in Melvin’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services.
