Mr. Henry “John” Preston Jr. age 82 of Possum Trot Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday Feb. 3, 2016 in the Piedmont Hospital following a sudden illness. Mr. Preston was born on August 12, 1933 in Gainesville, GA., the son of the late Henry J. Preston Sr. and the late Robbie Parks Preston. John retired from the Boys Scouts of America after over thirty eight years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army. John was very active in the Community Chorus and in his church choir. He was an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution Blue Ridge Chapter. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. John was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County. Surviving John are his loving wife and best friend of fifty four years, Martha Bruskie Preston of Blairsville, two sons, Henry Preston of Brazil, Joseph Preston of Peachtree City, GA., two daughters, Frances Siegwardt of Grove City, OH., Ashley Preston of Atlanta, two sisters, Patricia Newton of St. Simons Island, GA., Martha Butler of Virginia Beach, VA., eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive. A Celebration of John’s life will be held on Sunday Feb. 7, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Troop 101 Scout Hut in John’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services.
