Terry Glenn “Corky” Trapp: Obituary

Mr. Terry Glenn “Corky” Trapp age 46 of Old Dial Rd. Blue Ridge passed away peacefully on Sunday July 28, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Trapp was born on July 27, 1973 in Rome, GA., the son of Larry Glenn Trapp and Judy Carol Lumberg. Randy Lydall Trapp, Corky’s special friend, and first cousin, served as best man at his wedding. Randy also was Baptized the same day as Corky on July 25, 2019,  which was performed by Pastor Ed Philo in the home of Terry and Machelle Trapp. Corky had many brother like relationships within his forty six years of life. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Surviving Terry are his loving wife and best friend, Machelle Myers Trapp of Blue Ridge, mother, Judy Lumberg of Summerville, father,  Glenn Trapp of Summerville, two daughters, Jessica Darlene Trapp, Carry Meranda Trapp both of Summerville, stepsons, Dustin Ray Aaron Gowens of Calhoun, Ga, Timothy Tyler Gowens of Phoenix, AZ., Braden Dallas McAfee Rhymer of Dalton, two brothers, Scotty Trapp of Tryon, GA., Dee Gardener of Fairmount, grandchildren, Alaina Evelyn and Case Robert McCarty, Honesty Annalee Noles all of Summerville, Aria Rae Lynn Gowens, Aaron Lukas Russell  Gowens of Calhoun,Ga several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday August 3, 2019 at 5:00 pm from the Tilley Bend Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Philo officiating. The family will meet with friends following the services at the church with a reception to follow (Friends may bring a dish if you would like). In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Tilley Bend Baptist Church in Terry’s memory.

Georgia Delores Corn Hooper: Obituary

Mrs. Georgia Delores Corn Hooper, age 98 of Salisbury, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to be reunited with loved ones on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Alpha Concord Plantation in Salisbury. She was born April 3, 1921 in Union County, Georgia to the late John Crowell Corn and Martha Jane Rich Corn. Her husband of over 50 years, Frank Woodrow Hooper and her son, Donald Frank Hooper, her sister, Ruby Corn Hooper and four brothers, Buell, Frank, Robert and Roy Corn all preceded
her in death.
Affectionately, called “Georgie”, she served her Lord well; teaching Sunday School for many years at Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC and later at South China Grove Baptist Church in China Grove. Upon her retirement from the washcloth dept. at Plant 1, Cannon Mills in 1978, she moved back home to Blairsville, GA and was instrumental in beginning a vacation bible school at her home church, New Harmony
Baptist in Blairsville. After the death of her husband, she relocated back to North Carolina to be close to her older son, Donald and his family in Salisbury. Georgia would daily eat lunch at the China Grove Civic Center where she would jokingly say, “she just went to cheer up the old folks.” After an illness and a fall in 2014, Georgia moved to Alpha Concord
Plantation in Salisbury and was lovingly care for by the wonderful staff there.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Harold Wayne Hooper and his wife Dorella, from Albuquerque, NM, and her daughter in-law, Shirley Hooper of Salisbury. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ron Hooper (Veronica), Tammy Hooper, Sandra Kiker, Randel Hooper (Courtney), Betty Fowler (Mark), Kevin Hooper (Juli) and Scott Hooper (Missy). Also surviving her are half-sisters, Mattie B. Chappelear and Althea Pickelsimer (Nelson) and half-brothers, Johnny Corn (Carolyn) and Bill Corn (Betty) along with two sisters in-law, Edith Corn and Kay Corn and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Hooper was held on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. A second visitation will be held at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
Funeral service will be at New Harmony Baptist Church in Blairsville on
Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev. Phil Goble, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC, Georgia’s former pastor. William George Mason: Obituary

Mr. William George Mason age 74 of Dogwood Drive Blairsville passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 23, 2019 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Mason was born on Feb. 12, 1945 in Murphy, NC., the son of the late William Mason and the late Oma Long Mason. William retired from the Union County Nursing Home after many years of service. His favorite pastime was watching his T.V. and he enjoyed fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Mason was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Mason are his loving wife, Sandra Cook Mason of Blairsville, his step children, Jason Seabolt, Amanda Spooner, Eric Seabolt, Ashley Seabolt all of Blairsville; sister, Ruth Ledford; sister-in-law Jessie Mason; nieces Peggy Robinson, Pam DeLong; nephews Kenny Nichols, Mike Nichols; great nephews, Travis Robinson, Shawn Robinson all of Hayesville, eight step grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial  service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Nursing Home Restorative Department in Mr. Mason’s memory.

Danny Jay Shaw: Obituary

Mr. Danny Jay Shaw, age 73 of Boy Scout Rd. Blairsville, GA., and also of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., passed away peacefully on Saturday December 7, 2019 in the Erlanger Baroness Hospital from a stroke following an extended illness. Mr. Shaw was born on September 27, 1946 in Dennison, OH., the son of the late Jack Shaw & late LuLa  Bradley Shaw. Danny served as CEO of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) for 20 years. He was an avid traveler, boater, snow-skier, and NASCAR fan. He also thoroughly enjoyed watching old cowboy movies. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Jim & Tom Shaw. Mr. Shaw was of the Protestant faith .

Surviving Mr. Shaw is his loving wife and best friend of 52 years, Patricia “Pat” Steffens-Shaw of Blairsville and Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister-in-law, Pam & Frank Terranova of Blairsville; brother-in-law, Craig Steffens of McCaysville, GA; sister-in-law Brenda Shaw of Marietta, GA; nephew, Jimmy Shaw of Ft. Lauderdale; niece Christy & Johnny Cox of Coral Springs, FL; niece Jody Drum of Marietta, GA; nephew David and Sonya Senterfitt of Martinez, GA., and several beloved nieces & nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday December 19, 2019 at Coosa United Methodist Church in Blairsville, GA., with Rev. Bill Burch officiating. The family will meet with friends at 1:30 followed by a memorial service at 2:00. A private interment will be held at a later date at Coosa United Methodist Church. Also, a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Ft. Lauderdale, FL., and will be announced. Flowers are accepted, or if you wish the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the American Cancer Society in Danny’s memory.

Evelyn Ann Denton Ledford: Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn Ann Denton Ledford, age 70 of Hiawassee, passed away Saturday November 30, 2019 at Union General Hospital. Mrs. Ledford was born January 20, 1949 in Towns County to Cleveland and Monda Lowe Denton. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church of God. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Evelyn loved gardening, her flowers and cooking. She worked hard all of her life to care for her family.

Survivors include her husband, Monroe Ledford; son and daughter in law, Ronnie and Renee Ledford of Hiawassee; sister and brother-in-law, Burnette and C.J. Nichols of Clayton, GA; granddaughter, Haley (Michael) Barrett; granddaughter, Kendra Ledford; great grandson, Grayson Barrett; nephew, Colby Nichols; and aunt, Della Dickard. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday December 2nd at the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee with Rev. Glen Eller officiating. Music will be provided by Sheila Eller. Interment will follow in Boyds Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers: Knox Garrett, Michael Barrett, Colby Nichols, Robert Bradshaw, Jerry Owens and Eric Owens.

Mrs. Gayle Elizabeth Kniffen, age 79, of Game Bird Lane, Murphy passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Kniffen was born on January 12, 1940 in Binghamton, NY to the late Agnes Gillespie Lewis and the late Frank L. Lewis. Gayle was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved the mountains and loved all wildlife. She was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving Gayle are her loving husband and best friend of sixty-two years, Charles Kniffen of Murphy; her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jon Tokarski of Katy, TX; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Marie Kniffen of Palm Bay, FL, and Richard and Rachelle Kniffen of China, MI; two sisters, Donna Williams of FL and Ila Brown of Hayesville; five grandchildren, Cheyenne, Shannon, Cameron, Brendan and Haley; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

No services are planned as per Gayle’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation in Gayle’s memory.

William (Bill) Joseph Klug Jr: Obituary

William (Bill) Joseph Klug Jr., a former south Florida banking executive, died on Sunday October 27, 2019 in Hiawassee. He was 96.

Bill Klug was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 16, 1923, to William Sr. and Augustana (Gussie) Klug. After graduating from high school, he went into the U.S. Army to serve our country during World War II. During the war, he served in General Patton’s Third Army Group in Western Europe.

After the war, Bill settled in south Florida (the “old” Miami and  for a time, Cape Coral) and entered the banking business fashioning his career there from being a teller to being president of a bank and many of the intermediate positions within the banking industry.

There Bill also found the love of his life, Lorraine Coon, and their three children, Jeff, Jane, Linda, soon followed, and Schnapps too (the family dog). During this time Bill developed his three lifelong passions, golfing (some playing and a true fan of the game), gardening, and the Florida Gators; particularly the football team.

After retiring, Bill and Lorraine toured the nation’s sites from their Road Trek van. Their travels included time spent in and near Hiawassee and it was not long before they decided on Hiawassee as where they wanted to live in retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Klug; their children, Jeff Klug of Hiawassee (formerly Miami, Florida), Jane Pratt (John Clarke) of Holmes Beach, Florida, and Linda (Jeff) Rabin of Lighthouse Point, Florida; and grandchildren, Charles Jerome (C.J.) Pratt, Elizabeth Pratt, William (Will) Pratt, Carly Rabin, and Julie Rabin. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister Katharine Palumbo.

Bill Klug will be greatly missed as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Humane Society or other charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 11:00am.

Marlon Gerald Gibson: Obituary

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces Memorial Services for Marlon Gerald Gibson, age 40, of Blairsville who passed away on Friday October 18, 2019.

“Waldo” (Marlon) loved his children and had a heart for animals. He spent a lot of his time with both. Known to be a hard worker and loyal man, Waldo was a friend to all he crossed paths with. He enjoyed the solitude of music- listening loud and often! Waldo connected song lyrics to the phases of his life. He would interpret each and every word with the emotions that he felt.

He loved California and spoke for many years of making a life out there “one day”. He finally made that happen.

Marlon leaves behind two children, Anastyne Faith and Corbin Macrae; his mother, Cordie Ann Gibson; sister, Alicia Gibson Ralston; and brother, Randy Allen. Many extended family members and friends also survive. Marlon was preceded in death by his father, J.L. Gibson; and grandparents, Elmer & Gladys Pickelsimer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The family will gather with friends from 10 a.m. until the service begins.

Mr. Michael W McCray, age 60, of Hayesville, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019. Mr. McCray was born January 18, 1959, in Murphy, NC, to the late Theron McCray and Ellavee Canup McCray. He was a member of Fires Creek Baptist Church, enjoyed working outside, and loved spoiling on his pet bird ‘Baby.’ Mr. McCray was preceded in death by his sister, Gladys Ware, brothers, Clifton McCray, Roy McCray, and Ronald McCray.

Survivors include his wife, Anna M. McCray, sisters, Arthel Davis, Clara Davis, Helen Oliver, Anna Lou Ware, and Betty Carter, brothers, Everett McCray and Ralph McCray.

Funeral services: Sunday, October 20, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Fires Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Dallas Crowder and Pastor Dennis Ash officiating. Music provided by Matthew Roach, Johnny and Joan Roach, Cordel Lands, and Bronson Kirby. Interment will follow in the Fires Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville announces the death of Mr. Wade Cowart age 95 of Collegedale, TN who passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019. Wade was born December 25, 1925, in Epworth, GA to the late Tatum Cowart and Myrtle Barnes Cowart. Wade was a member of Epworth First Baptist Church. He was also a member of 423 McCay Lodge. Mr. Cowart worked as a stonemason for Atlanta and Copperhill Mining Company and retired in 1986. Wade served in the U.S. Army in World War Two. Mr. Cowart was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Jordan Cowart.

Survivors include Fred Nicholson, Bob Nicholson, Abeliah Bishop, Tommy Harper, Jim Harper, Charles Cowart, Lyn Cowart, Sandra Cushen, Bill Cushen, and Denise Lane.

John Daniel Hutson: Obituary

Mr. John Daniel Hutson, 53, of Hiawassee, GA went to be with the lord on Tuesday October 1, 2019 following an extended illness. John was born on January 10, 1966 in Rincon, GA., the son of the late Jefferson Hutson and the late Henrietta Wilson. John was an avid fisherman and hiker; he even completed the entire Appalachian Trail. Just two weeks prior to his death, he had went on a fishing trip to Santee State Park which he enjoyed thoroughly. John was a veteran, serving five years in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Platte AO-186 tanker. John is preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson & Henrietta Hutson.

Surviving Mr. Hutson is his loving wife and best friend of six years, Sherry Nicole Hutson of Hiawassee, GA., and a brother & sister-in-law & sister and brother-in-law, Andy & Debbie Hutson of Rincon, GA., and Barbara Jones of Florida, father in law and mother in law, Tommy and Louise Thomas of Hiawassee, sister in law and brother in law, Terri and Jason Wheeler of Hiawassee, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 3, 2019 at 4:00pm at Bethel Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA with Rev. Charles Neal, Rev. Tommy Thomas, and Rev. Ray Guyette officiating. Special music will be presented by Larry & Bonnie Henderson and Tucker Wheeler. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers: T.J. Anderson, Jimmy Wheeler, Jason Wheeler, Jessie Gibson, Jody Allison, and Brandon Silvers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Tucker Wheeler, Buddy Sober, Ted Evans, and Ken Walker. Mr. Loudermilk was born January 18, 1989, in Cleveland, TN to Charles Loudermilk and Melinda Hamby Loudermilk. Mr. Loudermilk attended Maple Grove Baptist Church. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Jose Antonio Lopez age 95 of Byers Rd. Blairsville formerly of Plantation, FL., passed away on Friday September 27, 2019 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Lopez was born on Feb. 29, 1924 in Los Arabos Matanzas Cuba the son of the late Jose Enrique Lopez and the late Maria America Franchi. Jose cherished his family who was the world to him. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. Jose was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Lillian Lopez, Lazaro Lopez, Benito Lopez, grandparents, Jose Lopez, Caridad Collazo, Cipriano Franchi and Juana Caleo. He was always a very happy person who never spoke an ill word about anyone. Jose was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving Mr. Lopez are one sister and brother in law, Marta M. and Claudio Morfe of Blairsville, one brother, Miquel Lopez of New Orleans, LA., nieces and nephews, Marta Huck, Teresita Bretz, Claudio Morfe Jr., Robert Alvarez, Nicolas Matzirakis, Monique Dunlevy, Kyle Bretz, Claudia Bretz, Morgan Huck, Gerald Huck, Nico Matzirakis, Annaleisa Matzirakis, Emily Dunlevy and  many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Lakelawn Cemetery in New Orleans, LA. In Lieu of flowers the family has suggest Prayers.
