Alice Dell Brooks, age 86 of Copperhill, TN passed away on October 11, 2019, in Blue Ridge, GA. Mrs. Brooks was born May 14, 1933, in Blue Ridge, GA to the late Marion Dillard and the late Lassie Ellis Dillard. A member of Fairview Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her first husband Rev. Buddy Ray; brothers, Sonny Craig, Reid Dillard, Walter Dillard, and Arnold Dillard; great-grandchildren, Davanee Dickey and Jentzen James Dickey; and sister, Orthel Cochran. Mrs. Brooks enjoyed being a caretaker and loved to cook. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Survivors include: husband, Keith Brooks; daughters, Wilda (Jimmy) Burger, Wanda (Willie) Burk, and Winona Walker; step-sons, Kent Brooks, and Scott (Paula) Brooks; sister, Jean Newman; ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Funeral services: Sunday, October 13, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Bethel Church with the Rev. Doug Payne, Rev. Scott Graves, and Rev. Scott Baugh officiating. Arzetta H. Buchanan, age 95 of Mineral Bluff, GA passed away Saturday, September 28, 2019, in Ducktown, TN. Mrs. Buchanan was born June 14, 1924, in Mineral Bluff, GA to the late Everette Henry and the late Beulah Davis Henry. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Toccoa Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.J. Buchanan; brothers, J. P. Henry, Emmett Henry, Oscar Henry, Thomas Henry, and Danny Henry. She was a life long resident of Fannin County and served her community for many years with compassion and caring for others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include: daughter, Angela Buchanan; sisters, Margie Brown, Faye (James) Dillard, Dorothy Conner, and Jane (Norman) Owens; brother, Alvin (JoAnn) Henry; grandchild, Celeste Lance; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. James “Jim” William Story age 81 of Plantation South Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday September 26, 2019 following an extended illness. Mr. Story retired from the US Army as Lt. Col. With over twenty three years of service. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Jim loved traveling with his wife all over the US and abroad. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. Mr. Story was a member of the Day of Grace Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Story are his loving wife and best friend, Pat Story of Blairsville, three children, Carol Medlin of Dahlonega, Kristen and Ron Williams of Ball Ground, Brent and Dee Dee Edwards of Autaugaville, AL., two brothers and sisters in law, Richard and Sue Story of Danville, AL., Carlton and Nancy Story of SC., sister in law, Sondra Bailey of Cumming, GA., five grandchildren, Michael Medlin, Emma Hester, Abby Hester, Carson Edwards and Madison Williams, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 29, 2019 at 12:30 pm from the Day Of Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Rudy Tribble officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Day of Grace Baptist Church in Jim’s memory. Military Honors will be presented by the North GA Honor Guard. Interment and graveside services will follow on Monday Sept. 30, 2019 at 9:00 am from the GA National Cemetery. The family will meet with friends following the services at the church.

Lucille Elma Cable, age 84 of Young Harris, GA., passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 24, 2019 at her home following an extended illness. Lucille was born on July 9. 1935 in Pontiac, MI., the daughter of the late Ruie Parrish and the late Ava Brooker. She is preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Cable in 2017. Lucille thoroughly enjoyed spending time her family, especially her grandchildren. A majority of her time was spent sewing, reading, or cooking which she loved dearly. She attended House of Prayer church.

Surviving Ms. Cable is a son & daughter, Cindy Denmark of Young Harris, GA., Michael & Mary Ellen Cable of Atlanta, GA., a brother and sister, Wilbur Parrish of Sparta, TN., Yvonne Whiteside of Michigan. The following grandchildren also survive, Dalton Denmark, Dawson Denmark, Dana Brook Betti, and Tori Cable.

Mr. Cecil Park Thompson, age 83 of Reece Creek Rd. Blairsville, GA., passed away on Saturday September 21, 2019 at his home following an extended illness. Cecil was born on July 3, 1936 in Covington, GA., the son of the late Ernest Ray Thompson and the late Daisy Atha. Cecil spent the past 10 years playing for the Softball Senior League as well as coaching little league baseball for several years beforehand. He spent a combined 22 years in the U.S. Army and the GA National Guard, as well as serving as past Commander of the American Legion Post #233. He is preceded in death by a son, Daniel Thompson in 2004 3 brothers and 1 sister Ernest, Nesbitt, Waymon, and Bonnie. Mr. Thompson had lived in the area since 1997. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Thompson is his loving wife and best friend of 38 years, Glenda Thompson of Blairsville, GA., three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra & Larry Dillard of Loganville, GA., Sharon Jacobs of Monteagle, TN., Megan & Eric Chester of Hendersonville, NC., stepdaughter and & son-in-law, Michelle & Michael Ergle of Dawsonville, GA., two sisters, three brothers, and 2 sisters-in-law, Diane Nash of Alburn, GA., Peggy Miller of Covington, GA., Lynward & Lynn Thompson of Covington, GA., Stanley Thompson of Griffin, GA., and Kenneth & Charlotte Thompson of Stone Mountain, GA. The following grandchildren also survive, Trent Beavers, Jewell Thompson, and Christian Ergle and four great grandchildern.

Mrs. Haley Christina Wiley age 33 of Crump Creek Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday September 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness. Mrs. Wiley was born on October 16, 1985 in Blairsville GA., the daughter of the late Douglas Edward Sexton and Sharon Diane Murphy. She loved all animals and most of all loved her family dearly. Haley was a loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Haley was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mrs. Wiley are her loving husband and best friend of fifteen years, Jeremy Wiley of Blairsville GA., her mother and stepfather, Sharon and John Murphy of Sautee, GA., three sons John Robert Sexton of Sautee, James Jesse Wiley, and Jaxon Chase Wiley  of Blairsville, her sister Tosha Sexton of Blairsville, two brothers Richard Murphy and Robert Murphy of Sautee, and her grandmother Eloise Sexton of Blairsville.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 14, 2019 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Abernathy officiating. Mr. Earnest Gibson age 84 of Gumlog Rd. Young Harris passed away peacefully at Union Co. Nursing Home on Wednesday September 11, 2019 following an extended illness. Mr. Gibson was born on October 13, 1934 in Hyden, KY., the son of the late Virgil Gibson and the late Mary Jane Stidham. Earnest was a Shriner and loved making cat banks for new born babies. He also loved hunting and fishing, as well as being a member of the Unicoi #259 Masonic Lodge. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also his siblings, Arnold, Junior, Ruben, Julius, Carl and Lane Gibson, Wanda Jean Black and Ollie Bell . Mr. Gibson was a member of Old Brasstown Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Gibson are are his loving wife, Mary Fleming Gibson of Young Harris, one son and daughter in law, Richard and Lynn Gibson of TN., grandchildren, Ashley and Aaron Gibson, stepsons, Tony and Tim Henderson, Step grandchildren, Laura Lechinski, Rhonda Ping, Lisa Williams, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Mr. Gordon W. Taylor, age 94, of Blairsville, Georgia, who went home to be with the Lord on September 7, 2019.

Mr. Taylor was born in Carbonear, Newfoundland to William Bond and Martha (Mehaney) Taylor on September 25, 1924. Having grown up together, He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley E. Voisey of St. Johns, Newfoundland on Thursday, August 4th, 1949. Little did they know it was the beginning of an amazing adventure and love story that would take them to Orlando, Florida, where they would lovingly raise five children together.

Mr. Taylor was associated with the U.S. Military for 4 years as a heavy equipment specialist, and attended Prince of Wales in St. Johns Newfoundland. During the early years, he traveled the U.S. as a sales/ service representative for Jacobsen Manufacturing Company in Racine, WI. He lived most of his life in Orlando, Florida where he owned and operated a trucking industry related business; he was also a certified insurance claims appraiser.

Mr. Gordon Taylor was an avid story teller and loved to tell stories of his childhood in Newfoundland. They were hard times but good times! He did a lot of traveling in his younger days and had great detailed stories. His mind was sharp and his memory was unbelievable. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, camp & spend time w/ nature and taught all his kids and in turn their kids to do the same. He was a great husband, wonderful father, and friend to us all and taught each of us a hard work ethic, honesty, and integrity. He loved his family tremendously. He will be deeply missed but what a life to celebrate! He will now reunite with the love of his life!

He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: His 5 children: Glen Taylor (Rita), Lance Taylor (Laurie), Brad Taylor (Kim), Gay Burke (Jeff) and Rod Taylor (Linda); sisters & brothers-in-law, Lenora & Marvin Davis of Warsaw, Indiana, Rosa & Joseph Butler of St. Johns, and Joan & Dave Broomfield of St. Johns. Also, sharing in his legacy are 12 grandchildren: Carmen, Michelle, Jessie, Tricia, Gordon, Justin, Kyle, Mandy, Emily, Becca, Rachael, and Travis; and 7 great grandchildren: Riley, Kailey, Annalise, Aden, Easton, Hazel and Oaklyn. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Shirley Voisey Taylor; his parents; 2 brothers, Raymond and George; and sister & brother-in-law, Ina & Francis Davis.
