Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mr. Edward Louis, “Eddy” Beaver, age 65, of Morganton, Georgia, who passed away on Tuesday, December 4th, 2018 in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Born in Murphy, North Carolina, Eddy remained a lifelong resident of our area and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Morganton. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Estelline Beaver; grandson, Landon Michael Beaver; and sisters Grovie and Myrtle.
Surviving Eddy is his loving wife: Charlotte Bowers Beaver, of Morganton; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Scott Avant, of Houston, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Shandel Beaver, of Lemoore, California; and son and daughter-in-law, George and Katie Roberson, of Morganton; sister: Corine Bell, of Tennessee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Ann Beaver, of Blairsville; Claude and Judith Beaver of Epworth, Georgia; brothers: Grady Beaver of Morganton; and Calvin Beaver, of Chatsworth, Georgia; grandchildren: Danielle Avant, Samantha Avant, David Roberson, Sarah Roberson, and Rachel Roberson. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services have been scheduled for Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., to be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Morganton.
The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to The American Heart Association, in lieu of flowers.

Carlyle “Poppy” Sparkman went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2018. He was born April 2, 1925 in Wilson NC, to Preston Cutler and Jennie Mae (McLendon) Sparkman. He grew up on a farm in Rocky Point NC. He served in the Navy in WWII in the Pacific. After the war he went to work as a fruit and vegetable inspector for the Federal State Inspection Service. While inspecting strawberries in Georgiana, AL he spotted the love of his life. He married Dorothy Gwen Dean on November 10, 1948 and they just recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He worked for the federal government in several positions, living in many different cities up and down the eastern United States. He loved to hunt and fish, he loved to build things. After his retirement they moved to Folsom, LA, where he built his own home. Poppy and Granny moved to Blairsville, GA in 2015, where they currently reside.
Poppy is survived by his wife Dot, sons C Dean and wife Patti of Oklahoma City, James P and wife Jean of Mandeville LA, daughter Gwen and husband Andrew Francis of Blairsville GA, ten grandchildren, Deana, Alicia, Cheryl, Christina, Robert, Lela, Sarah, Vanessa, Alice and Aidan, 4 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the World War II Museum in New Orleans La.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, Dec 10 at Bethel West Methodist Church with internment at Bethel West Cemetery in Georgiana AL. The family will meet with friends at the Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday from 12-3:00 pm.

Mr. James Boyd Nichols passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, November 25 where he resided in Murphy, NC. He was born on November 2, 1936 in Henderson, KY to the late James E. Nichols, Jr. and Evelyn Boyd Nichols. He attended Decatur High School in Decatur, Ga where he enjoyed playing football and received a full scholarship to play football at Presbyterian College in SC. He also attended the Atlanta Art Institute to pursue his love of art and develop his natural talents. James had a long career with General Motors where he traveled extensively and later in life became an Antique Dealer who obtained his appraisal license. He was a kid at heart that treasured antique toys.
Surviving Mr. Nichols are daughters, Jeanette Norton, Kelley Sevin, Michelle Rock and Colleen Ferrer.
As well as son-in laws, Samuel Norton, Kenneth Rock and Sammy Ferrer.
The surviving grandchildren are, Rachelle Ellis, Shannon Oates, Philip Sevin, Preston Jacob, Nicholas Rock, Patrick Fitzgerald, Kenna Rock and Cyleigh Ferrer.
Great grandchildren are Sage Rogers, Dylan Sevin, James Oates III, Matthew Oates, Ariella Ellis, Analise Ellis, Zoe Jacob, Lydia Jacob, Parker Sevin, Benjamin Ellis and Zane Jacob.

Opal Ann Kenna, age 76, of Blairsville, GA. passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2018. She was born to parents Wayne & Lorene Holloway on December 1,1941 in Graham County, North Carolina.
She attended Robbinsville High School until 1957. She traveled for many years and made homes in Marietta, Ga, Nantahala, NC and finally settling in Blairsville, Ga.
She enjoyed feeding her birds and working outside in her many flower gardens.
Ann worked in the Hospitality industry for 40 years. She retired from Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris in 2015.
Ann spent many years with her companion Grover Rogers of Blairsville, Ga.
Ann is survived by two daughters, Tina Fletcher of Andrews, NC and Kim Sieck of Blairsville, Ga. She also had two granddaughters, Angela Keenan (Ken Keenan, husband) of Westwood, NJ and Ashley Gregory (Ricky Gregory, husband) of Blairsville, Ga; sisters, Pam Holloway of Robbinsville, NC, Sue Booth of Andrews, NC, and Rita Nesbitt of Houston, TX; and brother, Billy Holloway of Andrews, NC. Ann was blessed to have a great granddaughter, Zoe Keenan, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne & Lorene Holloway; brothers, Dale, Gary & Terry Holloway; sisters, Jo Moore, Laura Reeves & Wanda Crisp
A Memorial and celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces memorial services for Mr. Andrew Franklin, better known as “Frank” Herbert, age 81, of Blairsville, who passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.
Frank was a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but had been living in Blairsville since winter of 1981. He was widely known throughout our area as a general building contractor, both commercial and home construction. Frank developed a reputation of quality and was sought after for numerous and notable projects. For recreation, Frank enjoyed to waterfowl hunt, fish, and square dancing. Frank had been a Kiwanis Club member for many years, and served as President of the Club in 1991-1992. Frank was a proud supporter of Union County 4H Club’s Shotgun Team and believed in promoting responsible gun safety for children.
Family members that will cherish Frank’s memory are: wife, Virginia Humphries Herbert; son and daughter-in-law, Franklin E. and Debbie Herbert; son and daughter-in-law, Keith A. and Karen Herbert; and daughter and son-in-law, Mary L. and Stewart Blankinship; step-sons and their wives, Randy & Janet Tavlin and David & Michelle Tavlin; and step-daughter and her husband, Julie and Bob Smith; sister: Joyce McCleod and sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Richard Ehster; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Becky Herbert; eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren also share in his legacy.
Memorial services have been scheduled for Monday, November 19, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville. Myron Turner will present a eulogy. All past and present Kiwanians are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers for the service. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home for one hour before the service starts.

Mrs. Doris M. Roberts age 85 of Gumlog Rd. Young Harris passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday November 12, 2018 in the Chatuge Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Roberts was born on April 9, 1933 in Young Harris, the daughter of the late Jack McClure and the late Sue Puett McClure. She was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother. Great and great-great grandmother. She especially loved spending time with all of the grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Moody in 2017 and a daughter in law, Sandra Roberts in 2016. Mrs. Roberts was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Roberts are her loving husband and best friend of sixty nine years, Earl Roberts of Young Harris, two sons and daughters in law, Terry and Mattie Roberts, Marty and Dedee Roberts all of Young Harris, two daughters and sons in law, Judy and Rex Norton of Young Harris, Cathy Owenby and Paul Scherer of Hiawassee, two brothers and sisters in law, Sonny and Noretta McClure of Pontiac, MI., George and Shelby McClure of Charlotte, NC., one sister and brother in law, Ida and Roy Townsend of Blairsville, nine grandchildren, Craig and Dara Roberts, Dylan Roberts, Danny and Shawna Terry, Glenn and Michelle Barnard, Josh Owenby, Jamie Anderson, Alicia and David Rogers, Derrick and Lori Moody, Ann Moody, seventeen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday November 16, 2018 at 12:00 pm from the Old Brasstown Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Stiles officiating. Special music will be presented by Tyler Moody. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Josh Owenby, Derrick Moody, Craig Roberts, Dylan Roberts, Glen Barnard and Tyler Moody. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, D.J. Rogers, Andrew Rogers, Lee Anderson, Ethan Moody and Eli Moody. Interment will follow in the Old Brasstown Church Cemetery. Mr. W. Denson Davis age 79 of Richard Russell Hwy., Blairsville passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday October 27 2018 at the North East Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Davis was born on May 25 1939 to the late W.Denson Davis Sr. and Reba Cravey Davis in Tifton Ga. Mr. Davis had made his home in Blairsville for the last 35 years having moved here from Smyrna, Ga. W.D. was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed reading and watching football but he really enjoyed socializing with all walks of life. Mr Davis was preceded in death by a brother Royce Davis in 2005.
Surviving Mr. Davis are his loving wife and best friend of 56 years June Hood Davis of Blairsville two daughters and son in laws Audrey and Junior Lovell of Blairsville, Katherine and Adam Fischer of Dahlonega GA., one sister and brother in law Lynda and Denny Davis of Waycross Ga., two grandchildren Landon Lovell and Abram Fischer., many other friends and relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday October the 30 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Hunt officiating. Special music will be presented by Audrey Lovell. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Junior Lovell, Landon Lovell, Adam Fischer, Roy Fortenberry.
Interment will follow at the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8.

Mr. Dylan Mark Headrick age 22 of Davenport Court Blairsville formerly of McDonough, GA. passed away peacefully on Sunday June 2, 2019 at Northeast GA Medical Center following a brief illness. Dylan was born on June 5, 1996 in Watsonville, CA., the son of Mark C. Headrick and Thea Nina Powell Headrick. Dylan has been described as one of the kindest, purest hearts you’d ever meet, and brilliant beyond his years. He had attended Georgia Tech and was an amazing woodworker, musician, tinkerer, mechanic and engineer, but most importantly, a loving, caring son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend. In his short life, he touched the lives of so many who knew him. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Powell and an uncle, Kip Headrick.
Surviving Dylan are his parents, Mark and Thea Headrick of Blairsville, one sister and her fiancé, Carly Mae Headrick of Blairsville and Andrew Moody of McDonough, grandparents, Dave and Shirley Hulligan of East Wenatchee, WA., Jay and Joan Headrick of Magalia, CA., aunts and uncles, Jim and Carmen Darcey of Squaw Valley, CA., Clark and Eileen Headrick of Clarkston, MI., several cousins and many other relatives and friends.

Reverend James Marshall Lee, of Young Harris, GA age 80, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 30th. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He Loved God and loved working for God (reading his bible, preaching the gospel and adding more Christian’s to GOD’s flock) His love for his family and friends were beyond measure. In his pass time he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones (Family and Friends) visiting, helping and praying with his neighbors, drawing, painting, woodworking, fishing, gardening, and rock hunting, His hard working careers included: Grocery Store Manager, Owner/CEO of Lee’s Janitorial Service, Bus Driver for Towns County School System, Arbor Acres, and Union County Road Dept.
He was born the son of Joe Van Lee and Clyde Carter Lee, of Hayesville, NC.
He was proceeded in death by his Father (Joe) and Mother(Clyde), of Hayesville, NC His Brother and (best buddy) Ralph Lake Lee, of Warne, NC. Infant Son Daniel Jerome Lee, Infant Daughter Marrissa LeAnn Lee, Mother in Law: Estee “Edna” Ramey Bradley Chastain Three Brother in Laws Rev. Frank Dockery, Robert E. Brown, and Robert Dye Two Nephew’s: Zyndall Dye, and Mark Dockery, one Niece: Shirley Mae Dockery Grizzle and two Great Nephew’s: Andrew Brown and Jeff Brown.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geneva Chastain Lee, Son: Jason James and wife Wendy Marie Lee, of Young Harris, GA Daughter: Meda Lorinda Lee-McWhorter and Husband Benny of LaGrange, GA. Sister: Ruby Lee Dockery, Blairsville, GA. four grandsons: Justin and wife Sara Lee, Hayesville, NC, Brandon and wife Keltsey Lee, Blairsville, GA, Jordan Lee, Young Harris, GA , Ben A., Jr and wife Ashley McWhorter. one granddaughter: Kim and husband Brian Huckleberry Eight great-grands: Alex McVay, Jacob J, Lee, Jenna H. Lee, Cohen McWhorter, Jackson, Garrett, Addison Huckleberry, and MaryKalen Bryant. two sister-in-laws: Annie Mae Bradley Brown and Genette Chastain Dye, Brother in Law: Ernest and wife Sue Chastain all of Young Harris, GA, As he always said; at the end of his sermons: “He loved everybody, each and everyone of you.”
Funeral services will be held on Sunday June 2, 2019 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Pastor Ray Potts and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Special music will be presented by Alice McDonald and Spirit Led. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Justin Brandon and Jordan Lee, Alex McVay, Benny McWhorter and Scottie Brown. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Clearance Kirby, James (Buddy ) Mason and Jacob Lee. Interment and graveside services will be held in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery with the North GA Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, donations may be made to the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Rev. Lee’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9:00 pm.

Mr. James William Gregory Leheup age 64 of Morganton, GA., formerly of Orlando, FL. passed away peacefully at his home on Friday May 31, 2019 following an extended illness. Mr. Leheup was born on June 18, 1954 in Orlando, FL., the son of the late Eldred Delmer Leheup and the late Betty Pearl Paul Leheup. James was a computer enthusiast . He also enjoyed cars, car racing and motorcycles. He was a loving brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents and also two sisters, Betty Jean Thornton and Dorothy Ellen Shedd. Mr. Leheup was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Leheup are four sisters and one brother in law, Janet Hull, Della D. Frye, Nancy and Harold Johnson, Linda S. Sprenkle all of Orlando, two brothers, Eldred Leheup of CA., and Jack Leheup of Orlando, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time. Interment will follow at a later date from the Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando, FL. where he will rest next to his parents. Mrs. Kathleen Smith Burke, age 68, of Burkensmyth Lane, Blairsville passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 following an extended illness. Mrs. Burke was born on October 17, 1950 in Sanford, Florida, the daughter of the late Richard Smith and the late Doris Howe Smith. Kathleen had made her home in Blairsville for the past eighteen years, moving here from Fruitland Park, Florida. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, and painting. She was a loving and caring wife, mother sister, and grandmother. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Burke are her loving husband and best friend of forty-four years, Dalton L. Burke of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Allie Burke of Maitland, Florida, one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Frankie Kimberlin of Front Royal, Virginia; four brothers, Michael Smith of Blairsville, Steve Smyth of Blairsville, Daniel Smith of Robbins, Tennessee, and Greg Smith of DeBary, Florida; six sisters, Betty Sue Senger of Auburn, Alabama, Peggy Monfort of Eugene, Oregon, Sister Mary Joan Smith of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Nita Cadden and Julie Roach of Maitland, Florida and the late Patricia Vanzura of Blairsville; six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday June 5, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Deacon Larry Casey officiating and will be announced. Mrs. Vera Naomi Azzarello age 90 of Trackrock, Blairsville passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday May 25, 2019 following an extended illness. Mrs. Azzarello was born on May 21, 1929 in Creighton, PA., the daughter of the late James P. Gay and the late Ivy Lee Gay. Before her retirement she served as Vice President for Chase Bank for over thirty years. One of her hobbies was knitting sweaters for different charities, she also enjoyed reading and gardening in her spare time. She loved her Lord and loved going to her church. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Vera attended Harmony Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Azzarello are one son and daughter in law, Charlie and Lisa Azzarello of Blairsville, two brothers, James P. Gay of Trentum, PA., Bill Gay of Jacksonville, FL., one sister, Allene Hanz of Springdale, PA., two grandchildren, Robert Azzarello and Debbie Brendley, four great grandchildren, Brooke, Kate, Lauren and Matthew, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
