Mrs. Lucille Griffin Hayes Myers passed away peacefully on November 8, 2019 with family by her side.  She was born in rural Georgia near Quitman in 1922 and was a beautiful 97+ years of age.

Mrs. Myers came from very humble beginnings as the 8th of 12 children, all born at home and all required to work on the farm (sharecropping, picking cotton and other farm chores) from a very early age.  As a result, she was determined to better herself and ultimately became a licensed cosmetologist in 1952.  After working for others in that field for a few years, she branched out and started her own business, employing several other cosmetologists.  Lucille’s Beauty Shop was a very popular & fun gathering place in Albany, GA for many years.

After a serious childhood illness, she determined to become a healthy person and practiced diligently what she preached about good eating habits and exercise.  She began jogging & walking in her neighborhood daily as a young woman and was even ridiculed by some before it became the thing to do in later years.  Mrs. Myers fell and broke her back when she was 90 years of age, but determined to get back on her feet and start walking again.  She was still walking about an hour each day with her walker at age 97.

She came to know the Lord Jesus Christ in her young adulthood and never swayed from being a powerful, unafraid witness to others about Him.  She read and studied her Bible every single day until the last day she could, which was just recently.  Mrs. Myers was a wonderful influence and inspiration for so many people during her lifetime and was known and loved by them all.  She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA.

Mrs. Myers (called Lucy or Nanny by family) will be deeply missed by her large surviving family:

Scott (Anita) Key – Great Grandchildren:  Andrew (Thelma) Dickens, Brian (Meghan) Earwood, Wendi  Owens, Alex (Rebecca) Williams, Nicole (Jay) Thaxton, Cameron (Kylee) Key, Skyler Key – Great Great Grandchildren: Ariel & Keira Dickens, Lisa Bedford, Heaven Owens, Dakotah, Masen & Peyton Earwood.   She also had a very close and loving relationship with her special niece, Carol Guzman and her family.

Mrs. Myers was predeceased by her parents Wood & Janie Griffin, first husband Norman Hayes, second husband Robert Myers,  granddaughter Lisa Key Earwood, great granddaughter Kelley Jeanne Owens,  and all of her 11 siblings.

Mrs. Myers will be cremated at her request.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Mr. Carl Broward Williams, age 90 of Hiawassee who passed away at his home on Sunday morning, November 3, 2019.

Mr. Williams was born in Plant City, Florida on January 3, 1929 to the late Eddie Broward Williams and Ruby Florene (Bailey) Williams. As an industrious boy, Carl would ride 25 miles each day on his bicycle delivering newspapers. Shortly after high school, Carl started a 32 year long career in the phosphate mining industry. He held various positions from Research and Development to Quality Control, and eventually became Plant Superintendent. He always held a humble spirit. He retired at the age of 55, beginning a new phase of life working full time on the family cattle ranch.

Carl was very loving and personable. He was quiet and reserved by nature. Gifted with a mechanical mind, Carl could fix just about anything and enjoyed repairing cars and rebuilding tractors. He began a new hobby of woodworking when he moved to the mountains. Carl was an active member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and helped with youth activities. He loved gospel music and accumulated a total of 60 years singing bass/baritone in his church choirs. He and his wife, Hilda, had a love of exploration and travel. They have twice traveled the United States, visited various parts of Canada, and toured most of Europe.

He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: devoted wife of 70 years, Hilda Williams; daughter & son-in-law, Judy & Richard Kaufman; son & daughter-in-law, Gordon & Linda Williams; and son & daughter-in-law, Jason & Cathy Williams. Also, sharing in his legacy are 6 grandchildren, Jaime Beuchat, Jennifer Williams, Emily Williams, Trevor Williams, Caitlin Williams, and Cameron Williams; and 3 great grandchildren, Connor Beuchat, Curren Beuchat, and Cayden Beuchat. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Florene Frazier.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday November 7, 2019 at McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Taylor and Rev. Danny Byers officiating. Music will be presented by Wayne Hundley and Danny Byers. Interment will follow at Osborn Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Don Woodruff, Charles Grimes, Jr., Charles Chaney, Trevor Williams, Jim Wagener, and Frank Witkowski. Honorary pallbearers will include: Phil Heard, Walter Berg, Allan Driskell, Hiram “Buddy” Kelly, Jerry Armstrong, and Ron McGowen. The family will receive friends on Thursday at McConnell Memorial from 12 p.m. until the service begins.

Mrs. Sandy Joan Langford age 82 of Paul Nicholson Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Sunday October 20, 2019 following an extended illness. Mrs. Langford was born on March 16, 1937 in Kansas City, MO., the daughter of the late Leslie M. Grubbs and the late Florence Clarkson Grubbs. Sandy loved cats, especially her cat Snoopy and tole painting. Sandy loved helping those around her and was always selfless and considered other people’s problems before her own. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and friend to so many. She was preceded in death by her parents and also a sister, Butch Grubbs.

Surviving Sandy are her loving husband and best friend of forty five years, Gene Langford of Blairsville, one son, Gary Wayne Williams of Blairsville, stepson, Vincent Langford of Chattanooga, TN., stepdaughter, Cynthia and Randy Reed of Knoxville, TN., her close friends, Colleen Tamisiea, Lynn and Tom, Linda and Ron, many other neighbors, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Debra Lynn O’Neal Davenport, age 68 of Blue Ridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 in Blairsville, GA. Mrs. Davenport was born April 23, 1951 in Sugar Creek, GA to the late Joseph Tech & Essie Mosley O’Neal. Mrs. Davenport attended Glen Hope Baptist Church and is a graduate of Fannin County High School. She goes on to be with her husband, as well as, parents, sisters and brother, Joe, Kemp, Sue, Hazel, Kay, Orlo, Windsor and Wilma Ann.

Debra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed her job at Ingles Market as a cashier, always giving a little extra love and happiness to those she came in contact with.

She will be remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her daughters, Doris (Ed) St. Romain, April (Robert) Hatchett, and Elizabeth Davenport Kline; son, Joshua (Heather) Davenport, siblings, Carroll, Odra, Irby, Jan and Glen “Boo”; grandchildren, Jacob, Emily, Jessie, Sarah, Hailey, Caleb, Brac, Elisha, Samuel, and Averi; and many nieces and nephews. Also sharing in her legacy is special friend Mary Kay Akins Carlisle.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25, 2019, from the Glen Hope Baptist Church at 11:00 am, with Rev. Lamarr O’Neal and Rev. James Worley officiating. Special music will be provided by The O’Neals. Interment will follow in the O’Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Edward St. Romain; Joshua Davenport, Robert Hatchett, Mike Bowers and Craig O’Neal have been requested to serve as pallbearers.
