Mrs. Joyce Gwendolyn (Nichols) Jones, age 85 of Blairsville, GA went home to be with the Lord on February 2nd, 2020.
Mrs. Jones was born on November 12th, 1934 in Blairsville to her late parents, Ellard and Anna Lou (Gray) Nichols. Joyce was a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Blairsville, was a devout Baptist, and her passion was to spread the Gospel to everyone. She also enjoyed cooking, loved spending time with her family, and was a loving Ma Maw. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. Ervin Jones, sons, Benny Joe Jones and Terry Neal Jones, grandson, Brannon Neal Jones, and siblings, Edward Nichols and Linda Davenport.
She is survived by her children and in-laws; Trudy Smith Jones of Blairsville, Keith (Janet) Jones of Blairsville; brothers, Steve (Leigh Ann) Nichols of Mooresville, NC, Sammy (Glenda) Nichols of Blairsville; grandchildren, Billy Jones, Melinda Groves, Hunter, Hayden, and Emma Haven Smith, Shelley, Kyle, and Jessica Jones; 9 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way, and a special cousin, Patsy Abernathy also survives.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday February 6th, 2020 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Joe Jones officiating. Music and Vocals will be by the Nichols Family and Emily & Johnny Floyd. Interment will follow in the Jones family cemetery with Hunter Smith, Hayden Smith, Kyle Jones, Brycen Jones, Dustin Jones, Tylan Jones, Dawson Groves, and Drake Groves all serving as pallbearers.
The family is receiving friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Wednesday February 5th, 2020 at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.

Mr. Jacob Patrick Miller, age 20 of Hamilton Road, Blairsville, formerly of Dover PA., passed away peacefully on January 29, 2020 at his home following a brief illness. Jacob was born on February 4, 1999, son of Dave Miller & Elizabeth Miller. Jacob was a proud eagle scout, having been a member of Troop #222 of Dover, PA. Jacob also had an interest of all animals & reptiles He was an artist, having painted many figurines and other crafts he made. He also loved to play the board games, Shadows of Brimstone and Dungeons & Dragons. He is preceded in death by a grandmother; Joyce Lou Miller, two uncles; Tom & Joseph Keller, and a sister; Emily Lou Miller.

Survivors include his father, David Wayne Miller of Blairsville, GA., mother, Elizabeth Anne Miller of Dover, PA., maternal grandparents, Dave & Janet Keller of Dover, PA., paternal grandfather, Warren Wayne Miller of Blairsville, GA., girlfriend, Ashley Meiate of Blairsville, GA., god-father George Wallace Glynn of Shrewsbury, PA., god-mother Kelly Rea-Dimick of Blairsville, GA., two brothers, Joseph & Joshua Miller, both of Dover, PA., three half-brothers; Jereimiah, Jonah, and Jason Miller all of Redlion, PA. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Monday February 3, 2020 at 6:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with eulogies presented by friends.  The family will meet with friends from 5:00pm-6:00pm  at the funeral home. The following gentleman will serve as honorary pallbearers; Brian Taft, Hunter Kushner, Sean Rea, Joseph Moreno, J.D. Miller, and Josh Miller. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to be made to the Wildlife Conservation Society @ WCS.org in Jacob’s memory.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Mrs. Pauline Ledford, age 86 of Hayesville, NC who passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Pauline Ledford was born in Clay County, NC on September 13, 1933 to the late Burley & Alcie (Watkins) Maney. She raised 7 children and made her home a special gathering place for extended family and friends. A strong woman of faith, Pauline’s prayers and persistence helped bring her husband to faith in the Lord. He later became ordained and had a fruitful ministry for Christ. She loved gospel music, which could be heard from the outside as she tended her home, and singing hymns in the church choir. She was resourceful and could make a dollar stretch far by doing things herself – She put up food from her garden; created quilts, dolls, and sewed her children’s clothing from patterns she had bought. Pauline was thoughtful of others and would sacrificially do without to fill their needs. She and her husband enjoyed camping and traveling together through the years, especially trips to the beach with good friends, Bill and Lois Dyer.

She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: daughter & son-in-law, Lynn & Fred Hogsed; son & daughter-in-law, Bruce & Pat Ledford; daughter, Lorene Barnes; son & daughter-in-law, Joseph & Deanna Ledford; daughter & son-in-law, Teresa & Michael Anderson; son & daughter-in-law, Stephen & Terri Ledford; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Hooper and sister, Lougene Ledford. Also, sharing in her legacy are 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mrs. Ledford was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. William Lloyd Ledford; son, Dwight Ledford; grandson, Brandon Ray Anderson; son-in-law, Randy Barnes; her parents; and 3 siblings, O.J. Maney, Mageline Ledford,and Junior Maney.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Interment will follow at Laurel Hills Memory Gardens. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Nick Ledford, Josh Hogsed, Jesse Ledford, Bobby Garrett, Marty Ledford, Ed Berrong, and Ronnie Dean Maney.

Mrs. Ida Alene Morrow, age 92, of Murphy, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020, at Life Care of Copper Basin. Mrs. Morrow was born January 13, 1928, in Cherokee Co., NC to the late Pryor Hamby and the late Maggie Deaver Hamby. She was a member of the Fields of the Woods Church of God, and was a dedicated prayer warrior and spent much of her time witnessing and talking about Jesus. Mrs. Morrow was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence David Morrow, and five siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen Duggan, son, Robert (Sharon) Morrow, son, Edward (Denise) Morrow, son, Richard (Doris) Morrow, daughter, Cathy (Rodney) Campbell, sister, Jewell Murphy, brother, Thurman Hamby, and brother, Dee Hamby. Twelve grandchildren, Rob and Jennifer Morrow, Holly Morrow, Rodney Morrow, Yvonne and Mark Loudermilk, Tim and Jill Morrow, Dan and Anglia Morrow, Chris and Laura Duggan, Tiffani Duggan, Marshall Duggan, Keith and Carol Campbell, Jennifer and Tyler Boring, and Misty and Brad Muse, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 1, 2020, from the Church of God on highway 294 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Rodney Morrow, Rev. Tim Morrow, and Rev. Earl Hughes. officiating. Music provided by family members. Interment will follow in River Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers: Keith Campbell, Chris Duggan, Marshall Duggan, Rob Morrow, Austin Campbell, and Tyler Duggan. Cruse and late Rose Allen Cruse. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, Clyde had worked most of his life, in the family sawmill business that his father started in 1942. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and jeep riding, but his favorite pass time was joking with his friends and family.

The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces Funeral Services for Ms. Jennifer Leigh Livingston, age 33 of Hiawassee who passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Jennifer was born in Athens, Georgia on May 8, 1986. She was a bright and determined young woman who always managed to find the silver lining in every situation. Even when a car accident, at the age of 13, drastically changed the course of her life- Jennifer’s sterling character shined through. Jennifer remained optimistic and persevered through her health challenges. She found humor in everything, and matched it with her quick-wit. Jennifer had an artistic flair and enjoyed creating hand-crafted jewelry. She loved talking about college football and especially her beloved, Georgia Bulldogs.

Jennifer’s memory will be treasured by her family: mother, Donna Lynn Livingston; grandmother, Jeanette Livingston; and her uncles and aunts, Clay & Sherri Livingston, Kim & Greg Padgett, and Ty Livingston. She will also be greatly missed by her 10 cousins, numerous extended family members, and her 2 dogs, Pepper and Pony Boy. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, David Livingston.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2020 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee with Pastor Steve Taylor and Rev. Danny Byers officiating. Special music will be presented by Kayla Pearson and Andrew Rogers. Interment will follow at Laurel Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the service begins.

Mrs. Janice “Jan” Pacer, age 61 of Blairsville, passed awaySaturday January 25, 2020 at Union General Hospital. Mrs. Pacer was born March 25, 1958 in Charleroi, PA to the late George and Edith Walters Jan and her family had lived in Blairsville since 1992 when they moved to Blairsville. She was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ.

Jan absolutely loved living here in the Blairsville area. She was a very giving person. She was a wonderful wife and mother and was always willing to give to others.

Survivors include: her husband, Theodore “Ted” Pacer, III and son, Matthew Pacer, both of Blairsville.

A visitation with family and friends will be held Tuesday, January 28th at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville from 5 until7 p.m.

Mrs. Glenda Sue Stamey, age 81 of Epworth, Ga passed away on Sunday, January 26th, 2020, at her home in Epworth, Ga. Mrs. Stamey was born on March 21st, 1938, in Epworth, Ga, to her late parents Roy Querry and Doris Fisher. Glenda was of the Baptist faith, was a member of First Baptist Church of McCaysville. Mrs. Stamey enjoyed being a part of the Georgia Mountain Classic Car Club in the Blue Ridge, who enjoy their classic cars. She also enjoyed cross-stitching. She is preceded in death by her parents Roy Querry and Doris Fisher, and sister Linda Gail Querry.

Survivors include her husband, Fairley Stamey, daughter, Cindy Mauldin (Ron), grandchildren, Kelsey Appleby (Tré), Kayla Mauldin, Zachary Mauldin, and Rachael Bonner (Brian).

Mr. Richard Alan Smith, age 71 of Highway 325, Blairsville, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2020 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born on May 28, 1948 in New York City, NY., the son of the late Francis Smith & late Joan Prodan. Richard spent most of his free time outside, where he did a lot of fishing, hiking, camping, and gardening. He also dearly loved his special dog, Kiley. He is preceded in death by a brother; Francis “Gary” Smith Jr. Richard was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include his loving wife and best-friend of 51 years, Stephanie Marie Smith of Blairsville, daughter & significant other Stacey Perrone & Richard Colazzo of Cape Coral, FL., daughter & son-in-law, Christina & George Wolf of Inverness, FL., three brothers & 3 sister-in-law; Robert & Maggie Smith of Barngat, NJ., James & Virginia Smith of Blairsville, Dennis & Michelle Smith of Mayetta, NJ., two sisters and a brother-in-law, Deborah & Dan Lewis of Englishtown, NJ., Linda Blanchard of Blairsville, and four grandchildren; Mark Nocco Jr., Nicholas Nocco, Jared Muhsgnug, and Joseph Wolf.

A memorial service will be held at the Faith Presbyterian Church of Blue Ridge, GA with Dr. James Simpson officiating at a later date and will be announced. Mr. Johnny Max Hayes, age 73 of Blairsville, GA passed away early Sunday morning January 26th, 2020 at his residence.
Mr. Hayes was born on March 1st, 1946 in Monroe, GA to his late parents John Henry Hayes and Nellie Ree (Morrell) Hayes. Johnny worked for General Motors for most of his life, where he was a supervisor. He loved to fish, camp, travel, and the great outdoors and was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan. He was a loving husband, father, and PaPaw. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Sybil Ponder, Lynda Farmer, Robbie Lee, and brother, Dillard Hayes.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday January 30th, 2020 at 2:00pm from the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Rumfelt officiating. Military honors will be performed by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol Underwood Hayes of the home in Blairsville, GA; children, Lynn Cameron of Buford, GA, Cindy (Paige Hood) Hayes of Monroe, GA, Patrick (Laura) Hayes of Florida, Robert (Mary) Arp of East Point, GA, Richard (Stacy) Arp of Blue Ridge, GA; grandchildren, Julie Floyd, Anna Roper, Natalie Jackson, Wyatt Cameron, Matthew Harmon, Isabel Arp, James Arp, and Alana Arp; 4 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mabel Jones of Bethlehem, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday January 29th at the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville.

L.H. “Toby” Laster: Obituary

Mr. L.H. “Toby” Laster, age 85 of Highway 325 Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday January, 22, 2020 in the North East Georgia Medical Center of Gainesville following an extended illness. Mr. Laster was born on July 23, 1934 in Moultrie, GA., the son of the late John Green Laster & late Lucy Mae Hall. Toby was a Moultrie YMCA Volunteer before moving to Blairsville in 1964. He was a 50 year member of the Blairsville Church of Nazarine. He and his wife were also charter members of the church. He served as Union County softball coach for many years as well as owning and operating Toby’s Studio for over 30 years. He is preceded in death by six brothers, Arthur, Furman, J.C., Bill, James, and Allen Laster.

Surviving Mr. Laster is his loving wife and best-friend of 57 years, Wanda Laster of Blairsville, a daughter & son-in-law Michelle & Anthony Roberts of Demorest, GA., son & daughter-in-law Michael & Marina Laster of Plantation, FL., three grandchildren; Mason Roberts, Trey Roberts, and Anya Kostenko. Several nieces & nephews also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Friday January 24, 2020 at 7:00pm with Rev. Mark Handy officiating. Special music will be presented by Candi Tanner. Interment will follow in the Meadow View Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4:00pm-7:00pm prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Blairsville Church of the Nazarine in Toby’s memory.
