Juanita Boyd Bennett: Obituary
Obituaries October 4, 2019Mrs. Juanita Boyd Bennett, age 90, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019, at her home. She was born April 16, 1929, to the late Hubert W. Boyd and Montene Thompson Boyd. Juanita was a member of Morganton Baptist Church and loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She worked on consolidating church records, teaching classes, and serving on the cemetery committee. Mrs. Bennett graduated from Commercial High School and attended Georgia State University. She worked for Orr Refrigeration for three years and then went on to work for the U.S. District Court, Bankruptcy Division, in Atlanta, for seven years. While her husband was in the Army, Juanita managed the family businesses. Later, she was the Associate Broker and Office Manager at Mountain Town Realty. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Elizabeth Haizlip.
Survivors include her husband, of 71 years, Weymon L. (Sam) Bennett, Sr., son, Weymon L. “Lee” (Debra) Bennett Jr., grandson, Weymon L. (Candice) Bennett, III, granddaughters, Belinda and Cassie Bennett.
Funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, October 6, 2019, at 3:00 PM, from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Eric Kincade officiating. Interment will follow in the Morganton Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Waymon Bennett, III, Robert Craig, Rob Churchill, Chris Churchill, Ronnie Bennett, Robert Peardon, Jessie Rodgers, Danny Kirby, and Eric Whitener.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening, October 5, 2019, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy announces funeral services for Mrs. Linda Sue Jones, age 67, of Murphy, who passed away on Monday, September 30th, 2019 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Jones was born in Cherokee County, North Carolina, and was a daughter of the late Willard Luther Roberson, Sr. and the late Eula Mashburn Roberson. She was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of River Valley Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones was a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and aunt. She openly loved others, and would do anything for anybody. She was so happy when she was listening to gospel music on WKRK and worshiping her Savior! Besides her parents, she had been preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Ray Roberson.
Family members left behind to treasure her memory are her loving husband, Harvey Jones; son, David Jones; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Bruce Jones; a brother, Willard Luther Roberson Jr. and his wife, Barbara; brother Marvin Roberson and his wife Teresa; and sister, Martha Nell Byers; several nieces and nephews and many friends also survive.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday, October 2nd, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd, 2019, to be held at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy, with Rev. Harold Stiles officiating. Special music will be presented by Calvin Mashburn. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Donnie Roberson, Ronnie Roberson, Travis Roberson, Stacy Roberson, Casey Roberson, and Lee Brown. Selected to serve as honorary escort to the family are Calvin Mashburn and Bruce Jones. Burial will be in Mashburn Family Cemetery on Nottley River Road in Culberson, North Carolina.

Mrs. Helen Agatha Loos, age 98, of Woodstock, GA, formerly of Blairsville, GA and Live Oak, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept 21, 2019, surrounded by loving family. Helen was born on April 19, 1921 in Schenectady, NY to Micheal Joseph Navin and Ellen Bradley Navin, the middle one of their five daughters. Helen lived life to the fullest and was an independent woman who travelled the world (with her children in tow), never met a stranger and was quick to help anyone in need. She was witty, clever and never ran out of things to talk about. She was greatly loved and will always be remembered. Helen was a born-again Christian and loved sharing the love of God. Everywhere she went she touched lives and made friends of all ages.
Helen was greeted in heaven by many friends and loved ones who preceded her in death, and is survived by five of her six children and their families, Frances Turner, MS, Susan Poe, CT, Linda Ruppert, GA, Brenda Petropoulos and Martin Loos, FL, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews who loved her.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, at Meadow View Cemetery in Blairsville, GA. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helen’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army.

Mr. Larry Albert Barnes age 63 of Elrod Rd. Morganton passed away peacefully on Monday September 16, 2019 in the Pruitt Health Care following an extended illness. Mr. Barnes was born on May 1, 1956 in McCaysville, GA., the son of the late Albert Barnes and the late Irene Deal Barnes. He was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County. Larry never met a stranger and was always very outgoing and had a big heart for everyone. He loved riding motorcycles. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather. Larry was of the Christian faith.
Surviving Mr. Barnes are one daughter and son in law, Angela and Mark Newby of Dallas, GA., one son and daughter in law, Joseph and Diana Barnes of Morganton, four sisters, Kelly Stiles, Kathy Richie both of McCaysville, Gloria Pless and Barbara Matteson both of Murphy, three grandchildren, Lexis and Rylan Barnes and Tyler Newby, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A graveside service and interment will be held at the Mount Liberty Church in McCaysville on Sunday September 22, 2019 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to help defray expenses in Larry’s memory.

Bruce Edward Stewart: Obituary

Mr. Bruce Edward Stewart age 85 of White Oak Flats Rd Blairsville passed away in the Northeast GA Medical Center on September 12, 2019 following a brief illness. Mr. Stewart was born on December 24, 1933 in Pine Park, GA., the son of the late Willie Clifford Stewart and the late Fannie Knight. He had lived in Blairsville for the past 41 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He also owned and operated Stewart Builders from 1978 to 2010. Some of his favorite hobbies were, fishing, gardening, and any sort of yard-work you could imagine. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He is preceded in death by a sister and four brothers, Sarah Courtney, Arthur Stewart, Billy Stewart, John Stewart, and Bob Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a member and Deacon at Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Stewart is his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia Stewart of Blairsville, GA., one son, Craig Stewart of Blairsville, GA., a brother and sister in law, Willie Jr. & Susan Stewart of Ochlocknee, GA., Betty Jean Maxwell of Titusville, FL., a grandson, Drew Stewart and great granddaughter Claira Stewart, several nieces & nephews, a host of his church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 15, 2019 at 4:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Brandon Hester officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Ricky Rich, Terry Simmons, Harold Coker, Troy Collins, Brent England and Garry Collins. Interment will follow in the Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with the North GA Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. Mrs. Mary Kerrie Ann Davis, age 52, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 in Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Davis was born on August 14, 1967 in Cherry Pointe, NC, to James Redden and Mary Ann Niemiec Redden. Their large brood of 16 kids moved often during Jim’s Marine Corps career. She married Kevin Davis during his Army service and they moved throughout Hawaii, where they wed, and Richmond Hill, GA before they came to the North Georgia mountains 17 years ago.
Mary Kerrie was always full of love for everyone she knew, even briefly, and life with her was never dull. She enjoyed travel, working with the public, gardening, photography, trying to cook like Gordon Ramsay and especially her golden doodle, Gal. Family was Auntie KK’s greatest joy. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister and aunt. Her daughters, Maggie and Macy, were the light of her life. She could make any baby laugh and so looked forward to grandchildren. Mary Kerrie attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Davis are her devoted husband and best friend of 24 years, Dr. Kevin Scott Davis of Blairsville, two daughters, Mary Margaret Alice Davis of Malibu, CA and Mary Christian Ann Davis of Blairsville, her parents and fourteen siblings: Mary Frances Elmore, Jimmy Redden, John Redden, Joseph Redden, Mary Lou Green, Mary Therese Kunjia, Joshua Redden, Job Redden, Jeremiah Redden, Josiah Redden, Jude Redden, Joel Redden, Jediah Redden and Mary Anna Redden. Many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends will also miss her. She was preceded in death by her brother Jacob Redden
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville with Father Jaime Rivera officiating. Special music will be presented by Haley and Robert Basilio. The family will meet with friends following the service at the church to celebrate a life that burned bright and ended too soon, like a firework. Obituaries September 6, 2019Brian Burnette age 42, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019. Taken from his young life much too early. Brian was born on July 10, 1977, in Decatur, Ga. He had several jobs over his lifetime, but his favorite was driving tractor-trailers over the road. He loved those big trucks. He enjoyed watching wrestling and singing to the radio. He is survived by his wife Teresa Burnette, sons, Jeffery Burnette and Joseph Burnette, father James (Betty) Burnette, mother Faye (Mike) Bailey, sisters, Mandy (Kevin) Norton, Lisa (Jace) Gibbs, Janna Bailey, brothers, Chris (Karen) Mull, Chris (Sarah) Bailey, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary Maxine Fuller, age 86 of Cherrylog, GA passed away Sunday, August 25, 2019, in Blue Ridge, GA. Mrs. Fuller was born October 12, 1932, in McCaysville, GA to the late Jasper C. Ray and the late Amanda Dilbeck Ray. A member of the United Methodist faith, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Fuller, and her sister, Eva Jean Scism. Mrs. Fuller worked as a computer programmer at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and retired in 1990. Maxine enjoyed crocheting and painting in her spare time and will be greatly missed by her family.
Survivors include: son, David (Kimberly) Fuller; sister, Shirley Mae Ray; grandson, Benjamin Aaron Fuller; and nephew, Ray Lynn Scism.

Luva (Lu) Marie Stoll Whetstone: Obituary
Obituaries August 19, 2019It is with sadness that the family of Luva (Lu) Marie Stoll Whetstone of Mineral Bluff, Georgia announces her death on Friday, August 16, 2019. Lu Whetstone was born in Geauga County, Ohio on November 13, 1928, to Derlin Stoll and Pearl Kightlinger Stoll. She is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Whetstone, her sister, Arlene Gotham, and brother Rowland Stoll.
In early adulthood, Lu Whetstone worked as a bank teller and later was trained in cosmetology, operating a salon out of her home in Parkman, Ohio. After the family moved to Marietta, Georgia in 1963, she was a homemaker.
Lu Whetstone is survived by four children, William John Whetstone (and wife Jan) of Dawsonville, Georgia; Gary Lee Whetstone (and wife Diane) of Athens, Georgia; Mona Lynn Johnson (and husband Scott) of Blytheville, Arkansas; and Pamela Gailey (and husband Mike) of Mineral Bluff, Georgia; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; members of her loving, extended family (Joe Whetstone, Fannie Detweiler, Anna Whetstone, Marvin Whetstone, Mary Weaver); nieces and nephews.
Lu Whetstone was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church in McCaysville, Georgia. A service of celebration will be held there on Monday, August 19, 2019, at 11:00 am with the Rev. James Francis Brownlee: Obituary
Obituaries August 15, 2019
James Francis Brownlee, 69, of Hiawassee, GA passed away peacefully in his home on August 10, 2019 after a hard-fought battle with an extended illness. Jim was born in Highland Park, IL, the son of the late Floyd Brownlee and the late Betty Volbach Brownlee. He had lived semi-retired in Hiawassee since 2004 and grew a career and family in LaBelle, FL and Cripple Creek, CO before then.
Jim was a loving husband, father, and brother. In 1980 he was married to his loving wife and best friend, Patti Brownlee (Borneman) in Cripple Creek. They have two adult children, Justin and Ryan.
Jim was a six-year veteran of the US Air Force and served during a time of war. At a young age he contracted polio and survived with no long-term effects from the virus. This fueled his passion to become a part of Rotary International and their pursuit to eradicate polio. Jim was a Plus Six Paul Harris Fellow and a previous Exalted Ruler of the Cripple Creek Elks B.P.O.E. 316. The Rotary motto, “Service Above Self,” was a calling card for Jim as he pursued many community improvement and preservation projects everywhere he lived.
Jim was a carpenter and contractor by trade and a craftsman, woodworker, and artist by passion. In 1976, he spearheaded the preservation efforts for the City Hall and Fire Station in Goldfield, CO. He designed and built the oak staircase in the City Hall in LaBelle, FL. The greatest joy in his life came from living in the mountains with his sweetheart and watching his boys grow their families.
He leaves his beloved wife Patti; his son Justin and his wife Denille of Maitland, FL; and son Ryan and his wife April of Palm Coast, FL. He also leaves a sister Sue Cogley of Waukegan, IL and sister Deb and her husband Steve Heinrich of Santa Fe, MN. He is also survived by his in-laws, Bryan Safranski and Diane Borneman of Plainwell, MI. He also leaves three grandchildren, Davis, Jilly, and Camille Brownlee, nieces and nephews, and many close friends.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville, NC with Father William Breedlove officiating at a later date. Interment will follow with family and friends at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Cripple Creek, CO in the Summer of 2020. Arrangements are being handled by Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville, GA. Ms. Susan Darlene Little age 65 of Shadwick Place Rd. Mineral Bluff passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday July 30, 2019 following an extended illness. Mrs. Little was born on Dec. 3, 1953 in Atlanta, GA., the daughter of Austin Joseph Little and Anna Jean Parris Little. Darlene owned and operated We Kleen Services for several years. One of her favorite hobbies was shopping. She had a huge heart and everyone who knew her loved her. She was a loving and caring companion, mother, sister, grandmother and aunt. She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Shayne Hatt and a brother, Gary Shane Little. Darlene was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Ms. Little are her companion, Allen Thompson of Mineral Bluff, her parents, Autstin and Anna Jean Little of Morganton, two daughters, Michelle Hatt of Buford, GA., Sandy Hatt of Dallas, GA., one sister, Judy Little of Morganton, one brother and sister in law, Chris and Connie Little of Lineville, GA., three grandchildren, Kelsee Hatt, John House and Taurus Hatt, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Harvey Claude Johns: Obituary
Obituaries July 25, 2019Mr. Harvey Claude Johns, age 93 of Blairsville passed away at his home on Thursday morning, July 18, 2019 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born on Sunday, November 1st, 1925 in Fulton County, GA to the late James Claude Johns and the late Eula Martin Johns.
He was of the Methodist faith and a member of Coosa United Methodist Church. He worked for General Motors for most of his career, and lived and traveled across the world for over 35 years. He retired in 1985, after serving as a Zone Manager for Chevrolet Motor Division in Kansas City, and he and his wife, Mary Johns, relocated permanently to Blairsville, where they enjoyed many years with friends and family.
Harvey joined the US Navy during World War II and served aboard an LCM in the South Pacific operating from the once held Japanese Atoll of Eniwetok located in the Marshall Islands. His medals and awards include WWII Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.
Surviving Harvey are his daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Jerry Wells of Blairsville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Greg Bousquet of Northville, MI; granddaughter, Stacey Jacobs, grandson-in-law, Michael Jacobs, great-grandson, Walker Jacobs of Milton, GA; grandson, Connor Graham of Chicago, IL; sister, Betty Jo Bates of Atlanta, GA; sister Jean Tanner of Tucker, GA; brother, Martin Johns of Cumming, GA ; brother, Carl Johns of Atlanta, GA; his good friend, Linda Jirik; and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Savage officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the service begins.

Edith was born in Polk County Tennessee on March 15, 1929, the 7th child of the late Benjamin G. Cross and Eva Mae Hughes Cross. Edith was preceded in death by husband Santa Payne and husband George C. Quinn, an infant son, Marvin Payne, brothers, Ed Cross, Hansel Cross, Hoyt Cross, James Cross, Lloyd Cross and Wendell Cross, sisters, Jessie Mae Cross and Inez Cross. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, cooking and watching Braves baseball. She was always busy and loved life. Edith touched many lives and we will miss her

Patricia Woody, age 67, of Suches, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019, at her home in Suches. Mrs.Woody was born January 5, 1952, in Dahlonega, GA, to the late Ray Jay Rider and the late Thelma Satterfield Rider.
Survivors include her husband, James Randall Woody, daughters, Kim (Nathan) Garrett, Miranda Woody, and brother, Ray Rider, Jr.
Funeral services: Tuesday, December 3, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers: Robert Woody, Howard Woody, Clyde Woody, Jason Booker, Michael Harper, and Daniel Murphy.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Tuesday, December 3, 2019, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any donations are welcomed to help with funeral expenses.

Nora Garrett Rogers: Obituary

Nora Garrett Rogers, age 94, of Dalton, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Nora was born November 29, 1924, in Hayesville, NC, to the late Bob Garrett and the late Verdie Carroll Garrett. Mrs. Rogers worked for Brumby Textiles, Levi Strauss, and furniture stores. She was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church and attended Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church before declining health. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Hoyle Vernon Rogers, daughter-in-law, Ann Hice Rogers, seven sisters, and three brothers.
Nora, a member of the generation that knew hard work and dedication, loved gardening, canning, working in her flowers – especially roses, picking blackberries, quilting, attending gospel singings, and traveling. She was a beloved, cherished, honored wife, mother, and grandmother. She was brave and had great courage, loved being in any exciting adventure, such as; riding a horse at 77 years old, flying in a helicopter at 85 years old, jumping in bouncy houses with great-grandchildren, etc. Being a great example of love, her loving hugs, kisses, and “I Love You’s” were always given each time you entered her home or was in her presence. (Proverbs 31).
Her most delicious buttermilk biscuits, gravy, fried chicken, blackberry jelly, banana pudding, chocolate cake, and blackberry cobbler were lovingly prepared for her family.
Survivors include: son & daughter-in-law, Ernest & Tam Rogers, son & daughter-in-law, Don & Becky Rogers, son, John Rogers, daughter & son-in-law, Nina & Junior Fleming, daughter & son-in-law, Brenda & George Mullis, daughter & son-in-law, Wanda & Steve Ware, grandson, Tony Rogers, granddaughter, Vicki Davis, grandson, Andy Ware, grandson, Adam Fleming, grandson, Donny Rogers, grandson, Brad Mullis, grandson, Keith Ware, several great-grandchildren,
great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, also survive.
Funeral services: Sunday, December 1, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Ware and Rev. Adam Fleming officiating. Music provided by Andy and Tammy Ware, and Keith and Christa Ware.
Pallbearers: Tony Rogers, Andy Ware, Brad Mullis, Donny Rogers, Keith Ware, and Charlie Davis. Interment will follow in Sweetgum Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Saturday, November 30, 2019, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
