Will Charlie Dent Retire clearing the way for Republican Establishment Candidate Ryan Mackenzie?

Featured, Politics

Last week Pennsylvania 15th District Congressman Charlie Dent announced he would not seek an 8th term. One thing Dent did not say in his announcement is if he would complete his current term.

L-R  Mackenzie -Simmons

Just days before Dent’s announcement PA State Rep from the 131st District, Justin Simmons,  announced he would challenge Dent for the 15th District seat.

The day after Dent’s announcement PA State Rep from the 134th District,  Ryan Mackenzie,  threw his hat into the race. Sources tell FYN that Mackenzie was with Dent the night before Dent made his announcement.

Mackenzie is being called Dent’s hand picked candidate. In an interview with FYN  Simmons said Mackenzie is a part of the state establishment, the Republican establishment candidate. Simmons had the nerve to oppose Dent.  We can’t find any information which indicates Mackenzie was prepared to oppose Dent before Dent announced he would not run.

Remember Dent did not say he would complete his term. Sources tell FYN Dent plans to retire. If he retires the voters won’t get a chance to pick the next 15th District Republican candidate through the primary process. The Governor will call for a special election. The voters will lose their voice.

Five counties make up the District; Lehigh County,  Berks County, Dauphin County , Lebanon County and Northampton County.

Pictured L-R Lehigh County Rep Chairman Jess Banotai, Berks County Rep Chairman Joe Rudderow, Dauphin County Rep Chairman Dave Feidt, Lebanon County Rep Chairman Casey Long, & Northampton County Rep Chairman Lee Snover.

The Republican County Chairman “Party Bosses” from each county will pick Delegates. These Delegates will then vote for their candidate to run against a Democrat candidate. The Democrats have the same process.

Sources tell FYN that the cards are stacked in favor for Mackenzie and if Dent retires he will most likely become the Republican Candidate.

Dent is a liberal Republican who has opposed President Trump at every turn. Dent finds every TV camera he can in order to say something negative about President Trump. Darlin’ Charlie Dent reminds many PA Republican of Darlin’ Arlen Specter. Dent is the Co-Chair of the liberal Republican Tuesday Group.

The PA Republican establishment must remember,  without the support of Senator Pat Toomey or Charlie Dent,  Donald Trump won Pennsylvania. So without votes from Trump supporters the 15th District could easily go to a Democrat.

Could Dent be preparing for a run for Governor?

We called Dent to ask him if he is retiring.

Dent Retirement a Sign of Trump Wave in ‘18?

Politics, State & National
FetchYourNews

Amidst all the talk among Democrats and the Media that the Trump election and presidency is a one off that will soon be remedied by a Democrat wave — there is actually evidence to suggest that just the opposite will ring true in 2018. For example, look at upstart Pennsylvania Congressional candidate Justin Simmons, who is running to be the GOP nominee in the 15th District. Simmons, 31, currently represents PA State House District 131 and was planning to mount a Conservative challenge to seven term incumbent Rep. Charlie Dent in the Spring 2018 Primary. That was until Dent abruptly announced his retirement, opening the door for 35 year old Ryan Mackenzie to enter the now open race, a race that could prove to be a battle between conflicting wings of the Republican Party.

Simmons recently called in to FYNTV’s Good Morning from the Office for an exclusive interview regarding his initial decision to run, the surprise of Dent’s retirement, and the differences between himself and Mackenzie.

Simmons made it clear from the beginning that his motivation to run was the dissatisfaction among Conservatives in the 15th District with Dent, as evidenced by the recent rally in protest of the seven term Congressman. According to Simmons, “just his voting record alone is bad enough… then going on MSNBC, CNN, The Washington Post, and The New York Times… being the go to Republican to rip Donald Trump and Conservatives,” had angered voters in the district won by both Donald Trump and Charlie Dent. However, Dent had spoken out aggressively against Trump during the campaign, refusing to endorse him and frequently criticizing him after his inauguration.

“I was never fully on board with Charlie, I always knew he was pro-choice and supported taxpayer funded abortion… but he was fiscally Conservative at first,” said Simmons, adding “as time went on he just got more Liberal.”

The news of Dent’s sudden announcement to retire was a surprise to the Simmons team, although he insists they were “ecstatic” and this it was a “victory” because it creates a chance to elect a Conservative representative. However, it has created a brand new dynamic with the entry of Mackenzie, setting up a race described by The Morning Call as a “Hatfield’s and McCoy’s race” between what they described as two longtime rivals. Although Simmons dismissed the “Hatfield’s and McCoy’s” comparison he did elaborate on what he sees as the differences between him and the only other declared candidate.

Ryan and I have worked together on a lot of good issues. The difference between Ryan and I, is Ryan is establishment and I am not. I got my foray into politics by taking on a Liberal Republican, I took on the party and I took on the establishment. Ryan Mackenzie, he came into politics, his Dad was the former chair of the party, he was very connected. When he first ran for State House in the 134th District… there was a special election and the party hierarchy greased the skids for Ryan, they cleared the field in the special election for him, he hasn’t had an opponent since.

Simmons also described Mackenzie as Charlie Dent’s hand picked successor, which means he will be the beneficiary of the PA GOP fundraising network. However, Simmons described it as a negative because it means Mackenzie would be beholden to the moderate Republican structure of the state party and not the Trump Coalition that delivered PA to a Republican presidential candidate for the first time in a generation.

This race will be one of many that pits establishment Republicans against the new, Trump Republicans. In his recent interview with 60 Minutes, former White House strategist Steve Bannon made clear his intentions to target establishment Republicans in the 2018 Primary races. This has already manifested itself in races like the special election for Senate in Alabama, where incumbent Sen. Luther Strange was leading in polling until Bannon endorsed his opponent, former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court Roy Moore.

What’s more, the race in Pennsylvania will pit two millennial candidates, Mackenzie is 35 and Simmons is 31.

Republican Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump with Pennsylvania delegate candidate Gloria Lee Snover

Donald Trump could win Pennsylvania and lose the delegates. If you can’t win at the ballot box then it’s time to go after delegates. All eyes on delegates.

When citizens in the Keystone state go to vote on Tuesday they have to make not one but four decisions when it comes to who they want to represent them at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Pennsylvania has a total of 71 delegates. There are 17 pledged and 54 unpledged delegates.   The state is divided into 17 regions. The Presidential candidate who receives the most votes in the region wins one delegate. If Trump, who has a double digit lead in the state, wins every region it will give him 17 delegates who are dedicated to vote for him at the national convention.

So what happens with the 54 unpledged delegates?  Voters will see a list of 10 delegate candidates and will be asked to vote for three. The voter will not know which presidential candidate the delegate supports. This means the delegate candidates have to run a campaign to let voters know who they will support. Many delegate candidates don’t let people know who they support.  Cruz and Kasich delegate candidate supporters wish to keep their support quiet because Trump is leading the state by such large margins.

I interviewed a Pennsylvania delegate candidate this morning, Gloria Lee Snover.   Snover met with Trump last week before a rally in Harrisburg where he asked for her support and for her to pledge to vote for him at the convention.  Snover made a commitment to vote for Trump on every ballot. Donald Trump has endorsed Snover for delegate.

Snover told us she has received two phone calls from the Cruz campaign attempting to get her to switch. She went on to say the “Never Trump”  Our Principles PAC and Kasich PAC have been making ROBO calls encouraging people to vote for certain delegate candidates without telling them who the candidate supports.

Below are some posts from Snover’s Facebook page:

Beware all Trump supporters!

I have now received 5 robocalls for Tom Whitehead in Congressional District 17 who does not disclose in those calls whom he is supporting. However, those calls were paid for by the following two Political Action Committees: 1) A New Day for America which is a Political Action Committee Supporting John Kasich and 2) Our Principals PAC, which is expressly a part of the anti-Trump or Stop Trump movement (http://www.factcheck.org/2016/03/our-principles-pac/)
[Our Principles PAC-Political Leanings: Republican/Anti-Trump Super PAC Spending Target: Unknown Our Principles PAC was formed in January 2016 to thwart Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Don’t be fooled by those stealth candidates who while saying they are going to represent you, in fact are going against your wishes.
The real Trump endorsed delegates for the 17th are
#2 T Lynette Villano
#7 Gloria Lee Snover and
#9 Carolyn L. Bonkowski
Proof is on Donald Trump’s Website found athttps://www.donaldjtrump.com/pennsylvania

CAUTION get this out. There have been 5 robo calls for a delegate candidate in the 17th Congressional District that does not say who they are for, but when you look up the PAC that paid for the call it is Kaisch and Never Trump. Dont be fooled by this phone calls. DO NOT VOTE WHITEHEAD. The establishment is funding his campaign.

The Principles PAC who is running the anti TRUMP campaign has been making calls for delegates. Make sure you do not vote for those delegates. They made four calls to my house for one of the establishment candidates. Caution.

Snover told us she has been active in the Republican party since she was twenty five years old working to get Republicans elected.  Although her views are more in line with Cruz, she said it’s time to elect a doer. Below is her testimonial for why she is supporting Donald Trump,

For the last 23 years I have held an elected position in the Republican Party. During those years I work feverishly to get conservative republicans elected; which I am still doing. I am currently Vice Chair of the Northampton County Republican Committee. However, too many times candidates got elected and then went down the establishment or moderate road. Worse yet they completely forgot who helped them get elected or even what their campaign was about. Recently, at a committee meeting one elected official said, “we cannot vote right or we will lose our jobs.” That night I realized I am really volunteering just to get candidates jobs. They will not do what it takes to move this country in the right direction. I am pro life, NRA member, and strong fiscal conservative, but I cannot strictly use that ideology this time. Of course I am more in line with Cruz, but this election is about a man who can break up Washington and the media. I must be willing to cast aside politicians and lawyers and do what is needed to turn this country around; YES a builder/developer. Yes, I think the medicine needed right now is someone who can get the job done; “the doer.” No more conservative speak, but a guy who deals in real. Please do not tell me where Trump stands on the issues because it does not matter. Conservatives please stop debating the issues and go elect a guy who will take the ball all the way down the field and not just five yards.

Forget the media spin and listen to our interview with Snover where she calls it the Pennsylvania Delegate Wild West.
