Mr. Douglas Alan Dowdy age 75 of Saddle Ridge Ct. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday Feb. 6, 2016 in the Erlanger Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Dowdy was born on Dec. 29, 1940 in Farmville, VA., the son of the late Clarence Dowdy and the late Lorraine Dudley Dowdy. Doug loved his church and loved the Lord. He was very active in his church and was a member of the Men’s Ministry. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was a generous and loving person who ways always helping those in need. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Dowdy Payton in 2005.Doug was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Surviving Doug are his loving wife and best friend of fifty four years, Sara Jane Adkins Dowdy of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Eric and Monica Dowdy of Blairsville, one daughter, Susanne Dowdy and her fiancé, Raymond Ashmore of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, Richard and Maggie Dowdy of Jupiter, FL., six grandchildren, Zachary Payton, Alexis, Austin, Tara, Kaitlyn and Autumn Dowdy, nephew, Earl and Tina Dowdy, great niece and nephew, Ty and Skylyn Dowdy, a host of church family, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Thursday Feb. 11, 2016 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. George Cline and Rev. Clayton Reeves officiating. Special music will be presented by Susanne Dowdy, Raymond Ashmore and Elizabeth Zdrodowshi. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Tim Grader, Dan Grader, Jonathan Lodge, Clayton Reeves, Gary Cook and Larry Davis. Interment will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted of if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church in Doug’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
