Nelson N. Fagan, 79, of Blairsville, Georgia, died Monday, December 19th, 2016. He died peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, after a fierce battle with colon cancer. Mr. Fagan was born May 10, 1937 in Whitehall, New York, where he graduated high school in 1955. He married his wife, Sandra Jones, on October 7, 1961. She provided extraordinary care throughout his illness. Mr. Fagan enjoyed a career in the propane gas business, starting out in Whitehall and climbing the corporate ladder with several transfers and promotions to areas in the southeast. He retired from Amerigas in Blairsville in 2001.Mr. Fagan was a member of the New York Army Reserve National Guard from 1954 – 1968. During those 12 years, he attained the rank of Staff Sargent in Company B, 205th Tank Battalion. Mr. Fagan joined the Masonic Lodge #96 in Whitehall in 1958 and still belongs to the lodge after 58 years. Mr. Fagan’s passion, for 65 years, was guns and competitive shooting. In his youth he was a member of the Whitehall Rifle Team and, for the past 18 years, he was an active member of the Chatuge Gun Club. Mr. Fagan was preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor Bessette and Ralph Fagan; by his brother, Ralph Fagan; by his son, Ralph L. (Butch) Fagan; by his son-in-law, Brett Nicholls; and by his grandson, Dray Crouch.

Left behind to love and miss him are his wife of 55 years, Sandra Fagan, his daughter Wendy Nicholls of Canton, Georgia, his daughter Jill Crouch (Sandy) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, his daughter-in-law Judy Fagan – Baker (Bill) of Calhoun, Georgia, and his six grandchildren: Ashley Fagan, Austin Nicholls, Carrie Crouch, Leslie Fagan, Sarah Nicholls, and Hailey Nicholls.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Georgia (epilepsyga.org) or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (afsp.org).

A memorial service will be held on Thursday Dec. 22, 2016 at 7:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Minster Greg Huskins officiating. Special music will be presented by Carol Blackburn. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
