Mrs. Catherine “Kay” M. Sawyer age 80 of Blairsville passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday May 21, 2017 following an extended illness. Mrs. Sawyer was born on May 4, 1937 in Danbury, CT., the daughter of the late Joseph J. Timan and the late Marie M. Koshel Timan. Kay loved to hike and loved the mountains. She loved being outdoors and nature. She was such a loving and caring person and loved her church. She always had a smile and a hug for everyone that she met. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, John Joshua Sawyer Jr. in 2004 and also a stepson, John C. Sawyer.. Kay was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church where she will be greatly missed by all.

Surviving Kay are her stepson, Charles W. and Susan Sawyer of Marston Mills, MS., one brother and sister in law, Timothy and Carole Timan of Edgewater, FL., one sister, Carolyn Schwab of Daytona Beach, FL., aunt, Jean Hazard of Danbury, CT., five grandchildren, John, Sherry, Katie, Brindy and Allison, a host of church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday May 25, 2017 at 11:00 am from the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Juan Areiza officiating. Special music will be presented by Ron Gaucher. In lieu of flowers if you wish, Kay’s wishes were that donations may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society in her memory. Interment will follow in the St. Clare’s Memory Gardens. The family will meet with friends following the service at the church. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
