Heaven has gained a beautiful angel. Glenwood Earl “Wimpy” Gibson passed away Sun., June 11, 2017, at the age of 87 due to complications of a massive stroke. Wimpy was born May 30, 1930, in Key West, FL. He is the son of the late William Henry and Erva Theo (Billberry) Gibson. He is proceeded in death by his parents, sisters Theodora I. Dussel and Barbara J. Johnson; brothers William T. Gibson and Charles H. Gibson; and grandsons Dennis and Damon Baso.

Wimpy grew up on No Name Key and Big Pine Key, and the Gibsons eventually established their homestead in Key West, on the corner of George and Washington Streets. His life-long profession as a commercial fisherman was one he truly loved. He most recently fished on his boat the Miss Delaina out of Stock Island Lobster. He was often seen with his brother Charlie on the Miss Shawna not far behind. He loved sharing his catch with family and friends. Fishing and family were Wimpy’s life. He loved children and always had snacks for any child who visited. He also loved sharing stories of his past and his cars.

Wimpy and Faye Marie Knowles Gibson were married on Christmas Day, Dec., 25, 1950, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Key West. They were happily married for 66 years, spending the past nine years of their life together in Blairsville, GA. They have one daughter, Karen Anne Gibson Baso, also of Blairsville, formally of Key West.

Wimpy is survived by his loving wife, Faye; his daughter, Karen, and her husband, Dennis Baso; granddaughters, Delaina (William Anthony) Leird, and Danette (Todd) Silvers; great-grandchildren Bianca and Arnaldo Boza; Paul, Kaitlynn, Kimberli and Michael Leird; a nephew who was like a son, Troy (Lindsey) W. Gibson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Interment in Key West Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Glenwood’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
