Lady Panthers fall 78-49 @ North Hall

Gainesville, Georgia- The Union County Lady Panthers basketball team traveled to North Hall High school to take on the Lady Trojans in a non region matchup.
First Quarter
The Panthers got on the board first after both teams took turns missing shots on multiple possessions. The Trojans responded with a 3 pointer to take an early 3-2 lead. Following a Trojan turnover, Sofia McNabb made a 3 pointer to give the Panthers a 5-3 lead. Chambers made 1/2 free throws to extend the Panther lead to 6-3. After being fouled again, Chambers made both free throws and extended the Panther lead to 8-3. The Trojans responded with another 3 to cut the lead to 8-6. Corinne Hill made a 3 to extend the Panther lead to 11-6. Both teams went on a long run of turning the ball over and missing shots. The Trojans ended the run with another 3, their 3rd of the game, to cut the lead to 11-9. After a Trojan turnover, Ava Hunter made a 3 to make the score 14-9. The Panthers led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
The Trojans got on the board first to begin the quarter with a corner 3 to cut the Panther lead to 14-12. Hunter made both free throws after being fouled to make the score 16-12. The Trojans made another 3 pointer, their 4th of the game, to make the score 16-15. The Trojans tied the game at 16 after making 1/2 free throws. Hunter quickly gave the Panthers a 18-16 lead. The Trojans made their 5th 3 pointer of the game to take a 19-18 lead. The Trojans took a 21-18 lead following a Panther turnover. After making both free throws, the Trojans took a 23-18 lead. Hunter was fouled while shooting, made the shot and made the following free throw to cut the Trojan lead to 23-21. The Trojans took a 26-21 lead after making a layup, picking up a foul and making the free throw. The Trojans made another 3 pointer and made a basline jumper following a Panther turnover to take a 31-21 lead. Following another Panther turnover, the Trojans made another 3, their 7th of the half, to make the score 34-21. The Trojans scored on another 3 point play to make the score 37-21. The Panthers trailed 37-21 at halftime following a 14-3 run after the Panthers trailed by 2, 23-21 midway through the second quarter.
Third Quarter
Hunter got the Panthers on the board first in the second half and made the score 37-23. The Trojans responded with another 3 pointer to extend their lead to 40-23. Rebekah Chambers made a layup to cut the deficit to 40-25 but the Trojans responded with another 3, their 9th of the game to make the score 43-25. Chambers scored again and made the following free throw to make the score 43-28. The Trojans made a floater to take a 45-28 lead. Chambers was fouled again after making another layup and made the following free throw to make the score 45-30. Following 3 straight Panther turnovers the Trojans scored 2 layups and made their 10th 3 of the game to extend their lead to 52-30. Chambers made 1/2 free throws to make the score 52-31. The Trojans made both free throws to extend their lead to 54-31. The Trojans turned the ball over and Lara Turner scored to make the score 54-33. Hunter made both free throws after getting fouled to cut the Trojan lead to 54-34. The Trojans made two 3’s in a row, their 11th and 12th 3’s of the game, to take a 60-34 lead. Hill made a buzzer beater floater to make the score 60-37. The Panthers trailed 60-37 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter was a low scoring quarter for both teams. Both teams rested their starters after midway through the quarter. The Panthers fell to North Hall 78-49. The Panthers fall to 4-2 on the season. The Panthers will host Lumpkin County on Thursday and travel to White County on Friday.
