Lady Panthers fall to Lady Rebels 67-45

Blue Ridge, Georgia- The Union County Lady Panthers basketball team traveled to Fannin County to face the Lady Rebels in a non region rivalry matchup.

First Quarter

Ariel McCarter got the Panthers on the board first to begin the game but the Rebels responded and tied the game at 2. The Rebels took a 5-2 lead after making a 3 but Ava Hunter scored and cut the score to 5-4. After multiple turnovers and missed shots by both teams, the Rebels were fouled on a 3 point shot. the Rebels made 2/3 free throws to extend their lead to 7-4. The Rebels scored 5 quick points to extend their lead to 12-4. Sofia McNabb responded with a made floater to cut the deficit to 12-6. The Rebels made 1/2 free throws to extend their lead to 13-6 to end the first quarter.

Second Quarter

The Rebels scored quickly to begin the second quarter after a steal to extend their lead to 15-6. Chambers scored to cut the deficit to 15-8 but the Rebels quickly responded with a 3 to extend their lead to 18-8. Hunter scored to cut the deficit to 15-10 but the Rebels made both free throws and scored 5 straight points after multiple missed shots by the Panthers to extend their lead to 22-10 and forced the Panthers to call a timeout. Chambers and Turner scored to end the Rebel scoring run and cut the deficit to 22-14 but the Rebels made a 3 to end the half. The Panthers trailed 25-14 at halftime.

Third Quarter

Chambers scored to begin the second half and on the next possession Chambers was fouled after getting a rebound. Chambers made 1/2 free throws to cut the deficit to 25-17. Hunter was fouled and made both free throws to cut the deficit ti 25-19. The Rebels scored to extend their lead to 27-19 but the Panthers pushed the ball up the court and Hunter picked up another foul. Hunter made 1/2 free throws to make the score 27-20. The Rebels missed 3 attempted shots and got their own rebound and scored to extend their lead to 29-20 and the Panthers called timeout. Both teams took turns turning the ball over and missing shots but Hunter ended the run of missed shots and cut the deficit to 29-22. The Rebels responded with a made 3 and then scored after a turnover by the Panthers to extend their lead to 34-22. Chambers scored to end the scoring run by the Rebels and cut the deficit to 34-24. Hunter was fouled and made 1/2 free throws but on the missed free throw, the Rebels took it all the way to the basket and scored to extend their lead to 36-25. Hunter quickly scored, picked up a foul, and made the following free throw to cut the deficit to 36-28. The Rebels made both free throws after picking up a foul to extend their lead to 38-28. Hunter scored again to cut the deficit to 38-30 but the Rebels immediately scored but Hunter responded again, picked up the foul, and made the following free throw to cut the deficit to 40-33. The Rebels made a last second shot to lead 42-33 at the end of the third quarter. Ava Hunter finished with 13 points in the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

Turner made a corner 3 to cut the deficit to 42-36 to begin the fourth quarter. The Rebels responded and made the following free throw after picking up the foul to extend their lead to 45-36. After 2 turnovers by the Rebels, Hunter scored twice to cut the deficit to 45-40. The Rebels responded with a 3 to extend their lead to 48-40. McCarter scored to cut the deficit to 48-42 but the Rebels made another 3 to extend their lead to 51-42. Turner was fouled as she scored but missed the following free throw. The Panthers trailed 51-44. From this point on, the Panthers were outscored 16-1 through the rest of the quarter. The Panthers fall to the Lady Rebels 67-45 and fall to 6-5 on the season. The Lady Panthers will travel to Towns County on Friday night.
