Jackie B. McMillan

February 13, 1925 – November 17, 2018

Jackie B. McMillan 93, a permanent resident of Blairsville, Ga. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday November 17, 2018. Jackie was born February 13, 1925 in Clarksburg, W.Va.. She and her husband Robert with their young son Robert Jr. moved to Daytona Beach, Florida in 1950 where she resided until 2004. While in Daytona Beach she worked her way up through the ranks at Southern Bell Telephone Co (AT&T), where in 1973 she was promoted to be the first womanbusiness office manager, thereby paving the way for many other women to succeed, and was a member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers. She was a very active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church while living in Florida, and also served as a “Pink Lady” at the Halifax Regional Hospital in Daytona Beach, Fl.

After her retirement in 1981, Jackie discovered the North Georgia Mountains and fell in love with the beautiful scenery and slower pace of life, so she and her husband divided their time between Daytona Beach, Fl. and Blairsville, Ga. She became a full time resident of Blairsville along with her husband in 2004. Jackie enjoyed shopping, reading, crafts, supporting the local Humane Society, and her favorite TV programs. She was a loving child, wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grand mother, sister, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Jackie will always be remembered for her strong spirit, wonderful sense of humor, and very generous nature.

She is preceeded in death by her parents William 0. and Estella R. Bishop of Daytona Beach, Fl., her brother William 0. Bishop Jr. also of Daytona beach, and her beloved husband Robert L. McMillan Sr. of Blairsville, Ga.

Jackie is survived by her devoted son Robert L. McMillan Jr. and wife Judy of Blairsville, Ga., one loving grand­daughter Kimberly M. ZijI and husband John, and one beautiful great- grand son Nathan H. Zijl, all of Charlotte, N.C.

Christine Manno

December 30, 1958 – November 12, 2018

Christine Marie Manno Anzalone, 59, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed peacefully early Monday morning, November 12. 2018, after a short illness.  Chris was born in Newton Hospital (NJ) on December 30, 1958.  She was the daughter of the late Helene Gawdun (1962) and the late Fortunato Manno (1977).  She was also preceded in death by her mom, Sandra Cudney Manno, (2012).
Chris grew up on East Baldwin Street in Hackettstown, NJ . She was a 1976 graduate of Hackettstown High School where she was captain of the Twirling Squad.  She began her post high school education at Centenary College in Hackettstown eventually completing her Law Degree at California Western Law School in San Diego, CA.  She immediately opened her own Law Firm in Arizona and later became a State’s Attorney in Florida.  Most recently she owned a law firm in Blairsville, Georgia where she resided.

She is survived by her husband Michael Anzalone of Blairsville, her sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Paul Greszczak of Hackettstown, NJ, and their family Teri (Matt) of Virginia and Lori (Dan) of California.  She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law James and Diane Manno of Hackettstown, NJ and their family John, (Amy) McConnell, Dawn, (Mike) Simonetta, Bethany Manno, Diane Manno, and great nieces and nephews, JB, Moria, Michael, Jared, Ben, Ty and  Madison.  Her brother, Michael Manno preceded her in death (2018).

Aside from the love of her life, Mike Anzalone, Chris loved and was well loved by her fur baby, Zeus, a Siberian Husky who she raised from a pup.  She, Zeus and Mike enjoyed many wonderful days together at their log home in Blairsville, a house which she and Mike designed and built.

Chris left numerous friends in Hackettstown, Florida and Arizona.  The family wishes to thank all of Chris’ friends for their kindness, support and prayers during this time especially her longtime friend Jodie Dees who has been there through it all. Chris was a member of Fellowship of the Hills Church, Blairsville.  She was strong in her faith and believed her life was in God’s hands.   Not a day went by that she didn’t thank God for all things, big and small.  This was evident in her passion for helping people in any way possible through her law firm and in life.

A celebration of Chris’ life will be held on Wednesday, November 13th, 2-4pm, at Fellowship of the Hills Church 307-A/K Cleveland Street, Blairsville. Donald Alonzo Cook

April 14, 1940 – November 05, 2018

Mr. Donald Alonzo Cook age 78 of Cook Henry Rd. Morganton passed away peacefully on Monday November 5, 2018 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Cook was born on April 14, 1940 in Clover, SC., the son of the late Lonnie Cook and the late Annie Lee Shew Cook. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and a veteran of the US Army. He had worked at Georgia Boot for many years before retiring. Don loved fishing and a very detailed cabinet maker. He loved gardening and always planted enough for the whole community. He always was a hard worker and was dedicated to his family. He was a loving father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Gibson Cook in 2006, his parents and two brothers, Wayne and Kenneth Cook and a brother in law, Gene Gibson. Mr. Cook was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Cook are one daughter, Dawn Joann Mullinax , One son, Larry Cook both of Blairsville, two sisters, Rose and Jim Terry, LaurAnn Cook, three brothers and two sisters in law, Harold and Karen Cook, Roy Cook, Ronald and Judy Cook all of Blairsville, one granddaughter, Jessica Mullinax, two sisters in law, Kathleen Cook and Elaine Gibson, brother in law and sister in law, Jerry and Theresa Gibson, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Luther Thomas officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Dean Cook, David Reid, Eddie Terry, Roy Cook Jr., Dwayne Townson and Jackie Cook. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Troy Townson, Don Terry and Stanley Bruce. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery where he will next to his beloved wife Frances. Military Honors will be conducted by the North GA Honor Guard. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-8:00 pm.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Carver Cook, age 88, a native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away peacefully at home and entered her Heavenly Home on October 27th, 2018.

Mrs. Cook was the daughter of the late William Bunyan Payne and the late Laura Cook Payne. Besides her parents, Mrs. Cook had been preceded in death by her first husband, Steve Carver; and second husband, James “Jimmy” Cook; and eleven brothers and sisters: Willard Payne, Luther Payne, Everett Payne, Arvil Payne, Charlie Payne, James Payne, Grady Payne, Leonard Payne, Herbert Payne, Lillie Franklin, and Stella Dyer. Myrtle loved her family and her church, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 65 years. Mrs. Cook was also a member of the Daughters of the American Legion, Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary Member, and North Georgia Honor Guard. She loved the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and hunting, but her passion was making quilts. She has given away over 500 quilts with love. Her philosophy in life was – “What you do for yourself passes away with you – what you do for others lives on.”

Family members left behind to carry on Mrs. Cook’s wonderful legacy are her children: Wanda and Bill Cantrell, of Blairsville; Gwen and Ronnie Scott, of Greensboro, North Carolina; and Steve R. and Patricia Carver of Blairsville;a sister, Vesta Stroup, of Blairsville; five grandchildren: Jill (Donald) Passmore, Bart (Dana) Scott, Joy Scott, Brianne (Jay) Merry, and Hollie (Mark) Holloway; ten great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, October 30th, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Kenny Beavers and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Charles Brackett, Tyler Scott, Bart Scott, Ronnie Dyer, Terry Carver, and Bill Cantrell. Asked to serve as honorary escort to the family are Sonny Freeman and Herbert Parham. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday evening, October 29th, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Fred William Plott

November 07, 1932 – October 25, 2018

Mr. Fred William Plott age 85 of Wild Fern Lane, Blairsville passed away after an extended illness at Union General Hospital. Mr. Plott was born on November 7, 1932 in Young Harris Ga. the son of the late Grady and Buna Swanson Plott. He was a native and lifelong resident of Towns and Union Counties. Fred was a retired farmer and in his spare time enjoyed building things and doing split bottom chairs, but most of all he enjoyed teaching and spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving Mr. Plott are his loving wife of 58 years Dessie Gunter Plott of Blairsville, two daughters and sons in law, Rachel and Anthony Anderson of Blairsville, Cynthia and Randy Frame of Helen Ga., one brother and sister in law Robert and Evelyn Plott of Covington Ga., sister, Sandra Plott Gunter Blairsville. He was preceded in death by a brother Willis Gene Plott in 2016.
Funeral services for Mr. Plott will be held on Saturday October 27,2018 at 2:00 pm from  the Chapel of Mountain View funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Conner and the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by Angie Burrell. Interment will be held at the Old Union Cemetery in Young Harris.  Visitation will be from 6 to 9 Friday night at the funeral home. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the America Cancer Society in Mr. Plott’s memory.

Jeannette Marie Skipper: Obituary

Mrs. Jeannette Marie Skipper age 54 of Skeenah Gap Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday October 11, 2018 following an extended illness. Mrs. Skipper was born on Jan. 21, 1964 in Covington, GA., step-daughter of Leon Henry & daughter of Bobby Long & the late Sheila Lane Henry. Jeannette was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved going to thrift stores, dancing, flowers, gardening, watching her birds and most of all spending time with her family. Jeannette attended Fairview Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Skipper are her loving husband and best friend of thirty eight years, Antony Skipper of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Shannon and David Haynes of Blairsville, two sons, James Willis and Darryl Hutenson both of Monticello, GA., six sisters, Angie (William) Day of Covington, Angie Lackey of Winder, Roxanne (Christopher) Henry of Oxford, GA., Christy (Tabitha) Crow of Conyers, Candy (Christopher) Denier of Anderson, SC.,  Misty (Randy) Watkins of Cartersville, one brother, James Long of Mansfield, GA., nine grandchildren, Ariel and Serenity Mincey, Noah Haynes, Bella Carlile, Bailey Willis, Tristin, Sherry, Ansley and Caiden Hutchenson, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday October 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Jones and Brother William Day Sr. officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses in Jeannette’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services at the church.

Mrs. Geneva Hyde McClure age 80 of Rose Petal Lane Ellijay formerly of Blairsville passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at her home following an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Union and Fannin Counties. Geneva was very passionate about her family and was a very loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved growing flowers, especially roses and working in her yard. She and her husband Hadley owned and operated McClure’s Hardware for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hadley Eugene McClure in 2008, her son, Harold Eugene McClure in 2009 and a sister, Ruby Long. Mrs. McClure was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Mineral Bluff.

Surviving Mrs. McClure are one daughter and son in law, Patsy and Charlie Padgett of Ellijay, one son and daughter in law, Jimmy and Vickie McClure of Blairsville, one sister and brother in law, Darlene and Ronald Shore of Culberson, NC., eleven grandchildren, Mandy Long, Kevin Rogers, Chris McClure, Bo McClure, James Harper, Ann Creasman, Andy McClure, Jason Harper, Amy McClure, Ashley Nix and Jake McClure, eight great grandchildren,  several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday Sept. 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Special music will be presented by Sara Kate Odom. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Chris, Bo, Andy and Jake McClure, Joey Shore, Benny Long and James Ross. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband, Hadley. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memory of Mrs. McClure. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-9:00 pm.

Patricia “Patty” Ann Little: Obituary

Mrs. Patricia “Patty” Ann Little age 62 of Little Lane Murphy formerly of Marietta passed away peacefully on Sunday September 23, 2018 in the Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Little was born on April 17, 1956 in Long Beach, CA., the daughter of the late Lake James Little and the late JoAnn Thompson Little. Patty was a veteran of the US Navy and served as a Medic, DJ, and police officer. She was a true American and loved her Country and was proud of her service in the Military. Patty had made her home in Murphy for the past twenty five years. She was a Journalist editor of Cherokee Scout for 15 years  and cna in later years by trade Patty was a loving mother, sister and aunt

Surviving Mrs. Little are one son, Jason Blake Little of Murphy, one brother and sister in law, James and Barbara Little of Ft. Walton Beach, FL., several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
