Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Johnny “Sharon” Johnston, age 73, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018 at her home.
Sharon was born May 28, 1944 in Jacksonville, Florida, to Samuel Johnson and Faye West Hucks. She was the youngest of four sisters. Sharon worked as a legal secretary in St. Petersburg, Florida for 3 years while her husband, Art, attended law school. In Jacksonville, Sharon worked as Executive Secretary to the headmaster of a private school for 23 years, and attended First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and taught 4th grade Sunday School there for over 20 years. After retiring to the mountains of Blairsville in 2004, Sharon worked at Union County Nursing Home as the Activities Director for 4 years, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville for over 14 years. Sharon will be lovingly remembered as an outgoing, generous, and compassionate person who loved the company of others, especially her grandchildren. Activities that she enjoyed included spending time with her family, reading, cross stitch, traveling, and working. Preceding Sharon in death was her beloved husband, Art Johnston; her parents, Samuel Johnson Hucks and Fay West Hucks; and step-father, McKira West; sister, Audry Moore; infant grandchild, Ava Marie Johnston, and nephew, Jeff Kenney.
Sharon will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her, and especially missed by her family members: son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Margaret; 5 precious grandchildren: Alana, Michael, Jr., Madison, Anderson, and Alexander; two sisters: Elverta Gordon and Genevieve Register; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, where Sharon will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Art. The following gentlemen are selected to serve as pallbearers: Glen McCullers, Randy Ledford, Michael Everett Johnston Jr., Mike Calloway, and Doug Davenport.
Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Wednesday evening, March 28, 2018, between the hours of 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Pamalia Ann Knight age 64 of Ivy Lo9g Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Thursday March 15, 2018 surrounded by her loving family in the North East GA Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Knight was born on Jan. 20, 1954 in Orlando, FL., the daughter of Joann Carmichael Huggins and the late Johnny Walter Huggins. Pam was a very loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She loved living on a farm and her cows and living in the mountain brought her so much joy. She was always helping others and loved leading others to the Lord. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jan Rowell. Pam was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Knight are her loving husband, F. Lee Knight of Blairsville, mother, Joann Hackett of Panasoffkee, FL., one son, Justin Kamper of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Tambra Rogers of Blairsville, Camalia and Josh Bingham of Blairsville, one brother, John Huggins of Jacksonville, FL., one sister and brother in law, Sandra and Dan Kurigin of Panasoffkee, FL., five grandchildren, Taylor Kamper, Christina Rogers, Bryan Rogers, Logan Abercrombie and Makaylin Bingham, two great grandchildren, Carsyen Rogers and Nicolas Smith, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday March 20, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Marty Duncan officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Justin Kamper, Josh Bingham, Jerry Anderson, Jacob Dyer, Randy Curtis and Drew Dockery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9:00 pm.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Pamela Watkins Burrell, age 57, of Blairsville, who passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Pam had worked for Blue Ridge Mountain EMC and was a lifelong resident of Blairsville. Pam will be remembered as a loving mother, a good listener, and a good friend. She loved her children and her grandchildren so much. Pam enjoyed watching mystery movies on PBS and crocheting, and sitting on her porch and watching the world go by. Pam attended Jones Creek Church of God. Her husband, James, had preceded her in death, along with her parents, Tommy and Ann Hughes Watkins.
Pam leaves behind to treasure her memory the following family members: son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Tarah Burrell, of Blairsville; son, David Burrell, of Blairsville; sisters: Joyce Rogers and Shirl Stepp, both of Blairsville; Pat Chastain, of Cleveland, Georgia; and Diane Putnam of Hiawassee, Georgia; grandchildren: Luke, Landon, Tristan, and Ava. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville, with Rev. Randolph Jones officiating. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband James. The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers: Danny Rogers, Terrence Kane, Roby Phillips, Hugh Rogers, Brandon Sparks and Randolph Jones.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, the same day as the funeral home, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Doyle Wayne Chappelear age 78 of Roswell, GA passed away peacefully at his home on Friday March 2, 2018 following a brief illness. Mr. Chappelear was born on June 7, 1939 in Menlo, GA., the son of the late Voy Chappelear and the late Fannie Magnuson Chappelear. Doyle was a veteran of the US Army. He and his family loved boating and being on the water. He also enjoyed working in his yard, and being outdoors. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Bobby Eugene Chappelear. Doyle was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Chappelear are his loving wife and best friend of fifty two years, Mattie Corn Chappelear of Roswell, one son and daughter in law, Gary and Debbie Chappelear of Woodstock, GA., one daughter, Myra Brumbelow of Roswell, a nephew, Ricky Chappelear of Rome, GA., four grandchildren, Amber and Morgan Smith, Heather and Jonathan Rider, Austin and Leanna Chappelear, Cassie Chappelear, five great grandchildren, Allison, Jak, Elaina, Ezra and Dash, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday March 5, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Larry Trulove officiating. Special music will be presented by Larry Nichols. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Nelson Pickelsimer, Kenny Duckworth, Ricky Chappelear, Austin Chappelear , Curtis Corn and Jeff Wallace. Mary Lucille Bailey Barksdale, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Oktibbeha County Hospital in Starkville, MS. Mary was born on April 26, 1940 in Griffin, GA to John and Lucille Bailey. Mary had spent the last few years living at The Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville, MS.
She graduated from high school in Blairsville, attended Young Harris College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in elementary education. Before moving to Starkville, Mary lived in Blairsville, GA. She worked at Union County Schools as an elementary teacher. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church Blairsville. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents John and Lucille Bailey and former husband, Melton Barksdale.
Mary is survived by sons John Melton Barksdale (Denese), Ackerman, MS and Joel Douglas Barksdale; grandsons John Bailey Barksdale (Sarah Beth), Brantley Barksdale and Cody Barksdale; granddaughter Vivian Barksdale all of Starkville, MS.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Lee Ruth “Katie” Warren, age 87, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 in Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville.
Mrs. Warren was born in Blairsville, and was the daughter of Jewell Harkins and Edith Gillespie Harkins. A loving homemaker at heart, “Katie” loved to cook, and she was very good at it. She was very happy when cooking for large groups of family and friends. Her husband, Junior Warren, preceded her in death. “Katie” was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Family members and friends left behind to treasure the memory of Katie are her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Darla Warren, of Blairsville; sisters, Louise Butts and Clara Nell Coker, both of Blairsville; a granddaughter, Heather Warren; many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Sunday, January 20th, 2019, at 3:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Daniel Harkins, J.M. Grizzle, Michael Warren, Marcus Warren, Joel Gooch, and Phillip Warren. Asked to serve as honorary escort to the family are Larry Harkins, Terry Warren, and Perry Groves. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Frank’s memory will be cherished by all who knew him, but especially by his family: loving wife of 47 years, Clare Van Orden Kimmel; daughter, Cynthia Kimmel; son, Jeff Smith (Kara); and granddaughter, Hillary Smith.

Mr. Lindy Smith age 72 of Brandy Run, Blairsville passed away at Union General Hospital following after an extended illness. Lindy was a retired building contractor and always had some type of project going. He had lived in Alaska for 15 years and enjoyed Harley motorcycles.
Mr. Smith is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Sylvia Braxton Smith of Blairsville, one sister Cindy Smith of Haines City, Florida and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Fellowship of the Hills church and will be announced.

Mr. James Garth Moose age 56 of Gainesville, GA. formerly of Suches passed away peacefully on Friday October 12, 2018 in Wrightsville, GA following an extended illness. Mr. Moose was born on May 23, 1962 in Union County, the son of the late Emory Moose and the late Barbara Searcy Moose. He lived most of his life in Suches and was a 1981 Graduate of Woody Gap School. Garth loved hunting, fishing and most of all spending time with his grandchildren, He was a loving father, brother and grandfather. Garth was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Suches.
Surviving Garth are two sons and one daughter in law, Orrin and Mayra Moose of Gainesville, Dalton Moose of Flat Rock, AL., two daughters and sons in law, BreAnna and Matt Reddit, Amber and Brian Fields all of St. Cloud, FL., two brothers, Dwayne and Stephen Moose both of Suches, five grandchildren, Culen, Leyna, Emma, Ely and Axel, several cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Gene Clyde Reeves Sr. age 86 of Riverside Drive Hiawassee passed away peacefully on Monday October 8, 2018 in the Chatuge Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Reeves was born on June 11, 1932 in Atlanta, GA., the son of the late John Benjamin Reeves and the late Viola McMullan Reeves. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War. He had made his home in Hiawassee for the past twenty two years moving from Jonesboro, GA. Gene loved fishing, going to auctions, country music, baseball and going to fairs. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elsie A. Fulton Reeves in 1994, his parents and six siblings. Gene was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving Mr. Reeves are one daughter and son in law, Leta and Robert Serpas of Jonesboro, one son and daughter in law, Clyde and Barbara Reeves of Sharpsburg, GA, one sister, Doris Carson of Forest Park, GA., three grandchildren, Robert Serpas of Savannah, Adam Serpas of Milton, GA., James Serpas of Hiawassee, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced with interment to follow in the Forest Lawn cemetery in College Park, GA. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to a favorite charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Reeves.

Mrs. Ruby Alline McClure age 89 of Brannon Nix Spur Young Harris passed away peacefully on Friday September 28, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family following an extended illness. Mrs. McClure was born on July 7, 1929 in Union County, the daughter of the late Major Grant and the late Dora Shuler Grant. Ruby loved gardening and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and especially her great grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lee Rolen Gibson in 1977 and her second husband, Frank McClure in 1995, her son, John Gibson in 2016, two sisters, Donnie Anderson and Louise Breedlove. Mrs. McClure was a member of Many Forks Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. McClure are two sons , Charles and Gladys Gibson, Melvin Gibson, one daughter, Judy and Chuck Albury, two daughters in law, Judy Gibson, Diane and Kenneth Davis all of Young Harris, Like a daughter, Linda and Charles Floyd of Blairsville, two brothers, David Grant of Murphy, Henry Grant of Dallas, GA., two sisters, Ossie Mae Jones and Dorothy Vandiver both of Young Harris, six grandchildren, Chad, Cody, Jesse, Jenna, Krystal and Kimberly, nine great grandchildren, Colten, Copper, Maeva Rose, Layla, Jayden, Braylee, Reed, Khloe and Jamison, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday September 30, 2018 at 3:00 pm from the Many Forks Baptist Church with Rev. R.L. Martin and Rev. Ronnie Abernathy officiating. Special music will be presented by Jonathan Adams. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Chad, Cody and Jesse Gibson, Brandon Anderson, Sean Spade and Ryan Hadas. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Colten Gibson and Reed Adams. Interment will follow in the Many Forks Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband. Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Deborah Lee Jones Stephens, age 68, a lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at her home following an extended illness.
Deborah was the daughter of the late John Wesley Jones and the late Ruby Lee Sawyer Jones. Deborah was raised and spent the majority of her life on Jones Creek – living just across the street from her childhood home and parents. She was first and foremost a family person, always making sure her parents were taken care of, as well as her husband, son, nieces and nephew. Everything she did, she did big. She loved big, she smiled big, she laughed big…always the life of the party. She loved fun. Deborah enjoyed listening to country music, line dancing, working with flowers, Panama City Beach, and attending the Professional Bull Riding Association Finals in Las Vegas with friends. She was loved amongst her classmates and enjoyed working on the reunion committee. Charitable, always helping others in need when she was able to do so. Deborah was a hairdresser and she and her husband Andy owned and operated Westgate Video and Jewelry for many years and she was a member of Jones Creek Church of God. Deborah had been preceded in death by her beloved husband Andy, who passed away in 2016.
Deborah was dearly loved and her memory will be cherished by many; especially by her family members: son and daughter-in-law, Andretti and Cassie Stephens, of Blairsville; brother, Randolph Jones, of Blairsville; a grandson, Tyree Mackey; special niece, Olivia Jones; nieces: Angel King, and Leigha Fallis; and nephew, Casey Jones. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Friday, August 10, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Charles Brackett, Steve Wilson, Charlie Hinson, Tyree Mackey, Casey Jones, and Darren Jones. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Ed Stephens, Larry Stephens, Jasper Stephens, and Earl Brackett. Burial will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, and will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Janice Claire Corey age 105 of Victoria Drive Blairsville passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home on Wednesday July 25, 2018 following an extended illness. Mrs. Corey was born on May 13, 1913 in Oakland, CA., the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lewis. She had served as a Congressional Assistant for over ten years and had been a Magazine Publisher in California for many years. Mrs. Corey was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She loved her family dearly and also her dogs, Lunar, Timber and Princess, most of all she loved her Lord and Savior. She was a devout Christian who loved her church. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Corey in 1980, her daughter, Diane Stephanic and two brothers, Franklin and Billy Lewis. Mrs. Corey was a member of Choestoe Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Corey are one daughter and son in law, Tani and Rev. Ken Zollinger of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Don and Krystal Zollinger, Dan and Melanie Zollinger, David and Susan Zollinger, Cathy and Ray Curtis, thirteen great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, a host of her church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Choestoe Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Zollinger officiating. Special music will be presented by the Choestoe Church Choir and Ray Curtis. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Don and David Zollinger, Ray Curtis, Ricky Dyer , Caleb Curtis, and Eli Narrow. Interment will follow in the Choestoe Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the church on Saturday from 1-2:00 pm.

Mr. Jerry Junior Queen age 42 of Pinesville Park Murphy Passed away peacefully on Saturday July 21, 2018 in the Murphy Medical Center following an apparent heart attack. Jerry had battled high blood pressure for several years. Jerry loved racing and was very creative. He could create just about anything. He had a great since of humor and loved to laugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Homer Queen in 2006, his brother, Caleb Queen in 2015 and an uncle, Rickey Mealer. Jerry was a loving and caring father, son, brother and uncle and was a friend to many. Jerry was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Jerry are one daughter, Elizabeth Geyer of Murphy, his mother and stepfather, Mary Jo and Ted Harrison of Blairsville, three brothers and two sisters in law, Joe and Maria Bell of Andrews, James Queen of Murphy, Jason and Christina Queen of Murphy, three sisters and one brother in law, Michelle and Richie Morrow of Andrews, Evie Waters of Hayesville, Serena Queen of Blairsville, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday July 29, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Trout Cove Baptist Church in Murphy with Rev. Jimmy Morrow officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Jerry’s memory. The family met with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening July 23, 2018 from 5-7:00 pm.

Mrs. Ostendorf was born on March 30, 1933 in Zanesville, OH, the daughter of the late Arthur B. DeVol and the late Marie Sode DeVol. Catherine was a very creative individual and had many hobbies. She was an avid artist and taught art at St. Henry’s School for many years. She was truly loved by her family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and also her husband, Edward Bruce Ostendorf. Mrs. Ostendorf was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary’s Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Ostendorf are two daughters and sons in law, Mimi and John Hitselberger of Hiawassee, Caren and Frank Ayika of Ghana, Africa, four brothers and sisters in laws, Arthur and Ann Ostendorf of Ohio, Edward and Jenny Ostendorf of North Carolina, Todd and Mary Ostendorf of WI., Jan Paul and Sonja Ostedorf of Ohio., two brothers and one sister, Vince and Diana DeVol, Tom and Jane DeVol all of Ohio, seventeen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with internment to follow in the Miami Cemetery in Ohio where she will rest next to her beloved husband Edward. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to a favorite charity of your choice in Catherine’s memory.
