The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces the death of Mr. Rick E Redd, age 71 of Blairsville, who passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018 at his home. Mr. Redd was born on January 8, 1947 in Atlanta, GA to the late Hoyt & Zona Zachry Redd. He goes on to be with his parents, as well as, his cousin Phil Zachry.
A graduate of Georgia Tech, Richard was a smart, and often extremely comical man. He had the kind of personality that could fill a room and since of humor that could make even the most somber person smile. Richard loved many things, including Georgia Tech, fishing, antique boats and guns. He showed this by his participation in the Georgia Tech Alumni Association, Chatuge Gun Club and the Antique Outboard Motor Club. Above all this , he had a great love for God, his family, his church and helping others. Richard will be remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his wife of 49 years, Yvonne Redd; Sisters, Roxanne Patterson, Teena Franks (Keith), Jay Pitts, Mitzi Burrous (Mark), Wanda Pitts and Fonda Stowers (Bill). Also sharing in his legacy are many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, July 20, 2018 at 2:00pm from the First Baptist Church Blairsville Rock Chapel, with Richards Friend Doug Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the service hour at the church. in accordance with Richards love for helping others, the family has requested that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to Camp Jabez at 121 Split Rock Trail, Morganton, GA 30560.
Samuel Weissberg: Obituary

Mr. Samuel Weissberg age 75 of Blue Ridge Hwy Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday June 24, 2018 following an extended illness. Mr. Weissberg was born on April 3, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA., the son of the late Fievel and Miriam Weissberg. He owned and operated a carpet cleaning business for many years. He was a loving companion, father and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric Weissberg in 2016. He was a member of the Union County Lions Club. Mr. Weissberg was of the Jewish faith.
Surviving Mr. Weissberg are his companion and friend, Renee Ninov of Blairsville, one daughter, Shawna Weissberg of Glendale, CA., many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Lions Club in memory of Mr. Weissberg.

Darlene McCoy Hemphill: Obituary

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Darlene McCoy Hemphill, age 57, of Blairsville, Georgia, who went to be with the Lord Jesus on Sunday, June 24, 2018, with her husband and children by her side.
Mrs. Hemphill was originally from Murphy, North Carolina, where she was raised, and was a long time resident of Blairsville, where she and her husband raised a family of their own. She was a proud member of Revival Baptist Church of Blairsville for over 25 years and served there until the end of her fight with pancreatic cancer. After Darlene accepted Christ as her Savior in August of 1988, she remained a constant, unmovable light on a hill for all that knew her.
Darlene, known as “Darlin” to some, graced all she met with her quiet but playful disposition, steadfastness for her Savior, and never ending generosity. While her immediate family benefited the most from her joyful, kind and loving spirit – as well as her biscuit making- there is no doubt that the same spirit was felt by all those who crossed her path. Her life will forever be a testament to her love for Christ, her family, and others.
Family members left to treasure her memory are her husband of 37 years, David Hemphill; son, Travis Hemphill; daughter and son-in-law, Lacey Hemphill Rothe and Jayson Rothe; father and mother, J.C. McCoy and Mary Alice McCoy; brothers, Dennis McCoy and wife Trisha, and Johnny McCoy; Jan McCoy and his wife Tamara; mother-in-law, Eva Hemphill; many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hemphill will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Revival Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Seay, Rev. Hoyt Brown, Rev. Tim Dickey, and Rev. Paul Ray Morgan officiating. The body will lie in-state at the church starting at 1:00 p.m., before the funeral starts. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen are requested to serve as pallbearers: Logan Henderson, Kendon Hemphill, Matthew Thomas, Jake McCoy, Chris Keys, and Timmy Chastain. Asked to serve as honorary escort to the family are the following gentlemen: Bruce Hemphill, Lamar Chastain, and Gabriel McCoy.
The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, between the hours of 6 pm until 9 p

The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory announces Memorial Services for Elizabeth Joy Elliott, age 21 of Jasper, Georgia who left this world all too soon on Saturday, June 2, 2018.
Joy was born in Austell, Georgia on May 6, 1997. She was a graduate of Pickens County High School and was currently attending Chattahoochee Technical College. Joy loved working with children, she just recently celebrated the accomplishment of passing the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) exam. Her strong work ethic and passion would have undoubtedly been an invaluable asset to any school system.
Known as having an adventurous and free spirit, Joy was always on the move. She enjoyed nature, camping, and simply being outdoors with her friends. Her genuine attitude of caring for others coupled with her fierce loyalty enabled her to make friends easily. Joy truly and authentically enjoyed the company of others. Her generosity knew no bounds!
Joy will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: her father & step-mother, Jim & Mary Kay Elliott; her mother, Natisa Garrison; sister, Claire Elliott; aunt, Sharon Garrison; and numerous extended family members.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2018 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Tony Black officiating. Music will be performed by Amy Sepke and heartfelt memories of Joy will be shared by those in attendance. The family will gather together with friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service begins. Interment will follow the service at Ivy Log Baptists Church Cemetery

Mr. James Harold Horne age 84 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 13, 2018 in the North East GA Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Horne was born on July 12, 1933 in Blairsville, GA., the son of the late Roscoe Horne and the late Lena Neal Horne. James retired from Lockheed Martin after forty five years of service. He loved anything to do with nature, woodworking ,gardening, cars, and especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchild. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a granddaughter, Elizabeth Butler and two brothers, Jack and Gerald Horne. Mr. Horne was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Horne are his loving wife and best friend of sixty five years, Martha Sue Clark Horne of Blairsville, three daughters and two sons in law, Zerelda and Joe Butler of Powder Springs, GA., Robin and Scott Smith of Marietta, Tracy Glenn of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, Howard and Jean Horne of Austell, GA., one sister, Patty King of Blairsville, two sisters in law, Faye and Barbara Horne of Blairsville, five grandchildren, Katie and Adam Sexton, Jim Perkins, Zach Smith, Jon and Brittany Perkins and Wesley Smith, one great grandchild, Jace Perkins, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Chad Underwood officiating. Special music will be presented by By His Grace. Rene Sheeran Frechard: Obituary

Rene Sheeran Frechard left us to be with the Lord on June 9, 2018. He was “Frenchy” to all who knew him. After serving his country as an Airman in the Airforce, Frenchy enjoyed a long career as a truck driver. He spent the last 12 years, of his 25 years in Blairsville, driving for Union County Transportation. He loved meeting the people who he drove to various places, and they loved him back. He was colorful, caring, and compassionate in everything he did and with everyone he met. Frenchy was a familiar face in Blairsville; always with a quick smile and a story to tell. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Beatrice Florence Frechard, and three children: Dawn Marie Stempien of Perkasie, PA; David Frechard of Shrewsbury, PA; and Neil Frechard of Telford, PA; and, five step-children: Lawrence Rook, Yardley, PA; Steven Rook, Blairsville, GA; Ann Holland-Mennenga, Greenville, SC; John Rook, Blakeslee, PA; and, Lisa Lamb, Cedar Park, TX: grandchildren: Patryk Stempien; Andrew Rook; Greg Rook; Jennifer Maier; Shane Lamb, and Madison Lamb, and three great grandchildren. We will miss his quick wit, loving heart, and generous spirit.

Mr. Fred Thomas Greene age 80 of Blairsville passed away peacefully on Friday May 18, 2018 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Greene was born on Feb. 19, 1938 in Greenville, SC., the son of the late James Thomas Greene and the late Wilma Helen MaHaffey Greene. He had retired from the US Air Force after over twenty two years of service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving Mr. Greene are his loving wife and best friend of fifty nine years, Patricia Hodges Greene of Blairsville, one daughter, Kristi Figueroa of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, David and Jennifer Greene of Rockville, MD., one sister, Carol Buckhammer, one brother, James Aaron Greene, three nephews, Jamie, Chris and Robert Morris, one granddaughter, Emma Greene, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A graveside service will be held at a later date from the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. with Military Honors presented by the US Air Force. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Greene.

Mrs. Helen Collins age 73 of Forrest Circle Blairsville passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 15, 2018 at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Collins was born on November 7, 1944 to the late Thomas and Ethel Morris Seals. She has been a resident of Union County for the past 14 years moving here from Bradenton Florida.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond Collins in 2013 and a grand daughter, Lindsey Gibson Lee in 2016. She is survived by one son Don and Kathy Gibson of Afton, Tn., three daughters and two son in laws Cynthia And Neil Sutton of Bradenton Fl., Katherine and Chris McFarland of Ft. McCoy Fl., and Angelia Collins of Blairsville Ga.,six grandchildren Courtney, Gage, Savanna, Neil, Raymond, Sara, and one great grandchild Kailynn. Jack was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, Gerald Hugh Horne. Mr. Horne was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. William “Bill” Robert Hamby age 89 of Lancaster Rd. Adairsville, GA formerly of Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday May 14, 2018 following an extended illness. Mr. Hamby was born on Feb. 25, 1929 in Union County, the son of the late Rouss Jackson and the late Jessie Hamby Jackson. He was a native of Union County and lived for the several years in Marietta and Adairsville. Bill loved gardening and could grow just about anything. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Bill was a member of Allegheny Lodge #114 F&AM. Mr. Hamby was a member of Shady Grove Methodist Church.

Mrs. Flora Jo Dixon age 58 of Wilson St. Blue Ridge formerly of Blairsville passed away on Wednesday May 2, 2018 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Dixon was born on June 7, 1959 in Milwaukee, WI., the daughter of the late Tiny Stone. Flora was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She always enjoyed working and hardly ever missed a day. Flora was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving Mrs. Dixon are her loving husband of thirty five years, Robert Dixon Sr., two sons and one daughter in law, Robert and Patricia Dixon of Blairsville, Chad Dixon of Blue Ridge, two daughters, Kristina Dixon of Murphy, Angela Dixon of Blue Ridge, ten grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation for Mrs. Dixon will be held on Saturday evening, May 5, 2018 from 6-9:00 pm at the Mountain View Funeral Home. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of Mrs. Shirley Eunice Voisey Taylor, age 92, of Blairsville, Georgia, who went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, May 2nd, 2018.
Mrs. Taylor was born on Sunday, January 17, 1926 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to the late Richard H. and Winifred Bowden Voisey. Having grown up together, on Thursday, August 5th, 1949, Shirley married her best friend and high school sweetheart, Gordon W. Taylor. Little did they know it was the beginning of an amazing adventure and love story that would take them to Orlando, Florida, where they would lovingly raise five children together. Mrs. Taylor gave new meaning to the titles of Mom, Wife and Homemaker, because she truly did make a home filled with love for family. Shirley did many things in her life. She attended the model school and Bishop Spencer in St. John’s, as well as being an avid bowler and swimmer. She had an exceptional talent for cooking, baking and keeping up with her four boys, also known as “The Savages”. But more than anything else, Shirley was known for her kind, loving and genuine personality, which was so bright it could light up the darkest of times and places.
Having gone on to be with her parent, two brothers: Douglas and William; her sister, Allison, Shirley will be remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her husband of 68 years: Gordon W. Taylor; children: Glen Taylor (Rita), Lance Taylor (Laurie), Brad Taylor (Kim), Gay Burke (Jeff) and Rod Taylor (Linda). Also sharing in her legacy are her grandchildren: Carmen, Michelle, Jessie, Tricia, Gordon, Justin, Kyle, Mandy, Emily, Becca, Rachael, and Travis, as well as her great grandchildren: Riley, Kailey, Annalise, Aden and Easton.

Brenda Sue Hughes: Obituary

Mrs. Brenda Sue Hughes, 56, of Blairsville passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Hughes was born on September 27, 1961 in Murphy, NC., the daughter of James Kenneth Rogers and Murrial Kate Brown Rogers. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was employed as a teacher with Union County Schools. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and Nana. She enjoyed the simple life, loved Jesus fiercely, and was always ready for any opportunity to love on her three grandbabies. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Judah Ellington in 2013 and a brother, Charles Rogers in 1999. Brenda was a member of Notla Baptist Church in Murphy, NC but was a faithful attendant at New Union Baptist Church in Blairsville.
Surviving Brenda are her loving husband and best friend of thirty eight years, Kenny Hughes of Blairsville, her parents, Kenneth and Murrial Rogers of Murphy, one daughter and son in law, Holly and Matt Ellington of Valdosta, GA., one son, Josh Hughes of Blairsville, one sister and brother in law, Vivian and Chris Johnson of Murphy, three grandchildren, Stella, Jovie and Mila Kate Ellington, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday May 4, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Hoyt Brown and Rev. Harrison Bradley officiating. Music will be provided by Cindy Whitmore. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Brent Kelley, Matt Ellington, Chris Johnson, Marty Payne, Chris Ballew, Justin Jarrett, Tim Odom and James Bradley. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Deana Stevenson, Holly Cook, Pam Abernathy, Wendy Abercrombie, Brooke Sosensky, Sherrie Stover and Alicia Cox. Ellaree Davis Sosebee Fortenberry: Obituary

Mrs. Ellaree Davis Sosebee Fortenberry age 88 of Lower Owltown Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday April 14, 2018 in the Life Care center of Copper Basin following an extended illness. Mrs. Fortenberry was born on April 14, 1930 in Union County, the daughter of the late Charles Harvey Davis and the late Alice Naomi Rich Davis. She lived most of her life in Union and Murray Counties. Ellaree had worked as an LPN for over twenty years before retiring. She was an avid quilter and made many quilts over her lifetime. She loved spending time and being with her family. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Oliver Duel Sosebee in 1987 and William P. Fortenberry in 2009 and by a son, Ray Oliver Sosebee. Mrs. Fortenberry was a member of Track Rock Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Fortenberry are two sons and daughters in law, Tony and Linda Sosebee of Blairsville, Herman T. and Anita Sosebee of Chatsworth, GA., one daughter and son in law, Brenda (Gail) and Larry Berry of Blairsville, two sisters, Geneva Chastain and Beulah Davis both of Blairsville, eight grandchildren, Donna Winters, Michael, Jason and Matthew Sosebee, Mark, Bo and Jeff Berry and Ashley Turvey, sisxteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Track Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Plott officiating. Special music will be presented by the Track Choir and the Track Rock Quartet. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jason, Michael and Matthew Sosebee, Jeff, Mark and William(Bo) Berry. Interment will follow at 3:00 pm at the Murray Memorial Park cemetery in Chatsworth. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9:00 pm.

Mrs. Doris E. DeMuth age 94 of Henderson Rd. Young Harris passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 10, 2018 in the Union County Nursing Home following an brief illness. Mrs. DeMuth was born on November 24, 1923 in Aniston, AL., the daughter of the late John Allan and the late Florence Tobey Allan. Doris was a devout Christian who truly loved her Lord and Savior. She was content with her life and cared deeply for everyone she met and always had an encouraging word for everyone. Doris was so appreciative and thankful for the caring staff of the Union County Nursing Home. They became her adopted family. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Doris lived a life guided by Jesus. “This is the day that the Lord has made be glad and rejoice in it.”
Surviving Mrs. DeMuth are one son and daughter in law, Greg and Pamela DeMuth of Young Harris, one brother, George and Jeanette Allan of Panama City, FL., two grandchildren, Matt and Tesha DeMuth of FL., Ariel and Blain Highland of WA., five great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Union County Nursing Home Activities Department in memory of Mrs. DeMuth.

Obituaries April 25, 2018
Mr. Kenneth Lauver age 52 of Blairsville Ga. passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at his home following a brief illness. Kenneth was born on September 6, 1965 to the late Kenneth Ray Lauver Sr. and Phyllis Dougherty Lauver. He was preceded in death by his father and also a brother, Jeffrey Lauver. Mr. Lauver was of the Baptist faith and attended New Hope Baptist Church.
Mr. Lauver is survived by his wife Karen Lauver of Blairsville Ga. his mother Phyllis Lauver of Blairsville, sons Kenneth Lauver of Virginia, Chase Lauver of Virginia and Dillon Lauver of Pennsylvania, one daughter, Rickie Bush of Pennsylvania also surviving, one brother, Donn Lauverof Virginia, one sister and brother in law April & Gabino Jimenez of Blairsville Ga., many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to help defray expenses.
