Mr. James “Jim” Sherman Barnes age 61 of Christo Ct. Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday Jan. 5, 2016 following an extended illness. Jim was born on June 12, 1954 in Norton, KS., the son of Jean Burnett Barnes and the late Billy Sherman Barnes. Jim loved collecting model trains and model cars and emergency light bars. Before moving to Blairsville he had been employed with the Smyrna GA Rescue for several years and than worked at Towns County EMS for over twenty years. He was a loving husband, son, brother and uncle. Jim was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving Jim are his loving wife and best friend, Shirley Anderson Barnes of Blairsville, his mother, Jean Reece of Douglasville, GA., one sister, Cathy Minton of Jacksonville, FL., nephew, Jeremy Minton, niece, Brianna Houze, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Friday Jan. 8, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Terry Stuart officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, his fellow employees of Towns County EMS. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be fellow employees of Towns and Union Counties EMS. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 3:30-9:00 pm.
