Union County Takes Care of Business Against The Rebels

TeamFYNSports

Head Coach, Brian Allison, emphasized to his players all week about being solid on all three phases of the game. The Panthers would respond to their Head Coach in great fashion.

It would not take the Panthers long to get it started after forcing the Rebels to a three-and-out. Junior Quarter Back, Pierson Allison, would complete his first seven passes with his last pass resulting in a five yard touchdown pass to Chad Buzzard. The Panthers defense would not let Fannin do anything all night. Sawyer Drake would catch a 30 yard touchdown to make the score 14-0 in favor of the Panthers. The next offensive possession Pierson Allison would scamper in from 3 yards out to end the quarter with a score of 21-0.

Senior, Chayton Schafer, would get a piece of the Rebels next punt and put the Panthers in great position to score again. Allison would lead the Panthers down field and call his own number for a 15 yard run up the middle to make it 28-0. Union County would keep Fannin’s offense in check giving UC’s Offense another chance to increase the lead before half. Schafer would take a Allison pass 30 yards to bring the score to 35-0 heading into break.

The second half would start the same as it did against East Hall with a different player. Alex Scott would take the opening kickoff 85 yards to give Union a healthy lead. The game would be shortened because of running clock, but before that both teams would swap a blow a piece bringing the final score to Union 49 and Fannin 7. The Panthers will travel to Monticello, Georgia next week to open up region play.

The Panthers Sink The Vikings Ship

Business

The smell of hamburgers cooking on the grill and the sound of the band playing the Panther hymn meant it was finally football season again. Your Union County Panthers (0-0) took on the East Hall vikings (0-1) last night in a non-conference game. It was finally time for the football season to official start.

The big question for the Panthers this year was, how were they going to replace Cole Wright (Army Commit). That would quickly be answered in the first quarter by Junior quarterback, Pierson Allison. After the panther defense shut the Vikings down it was time to see if the junior was the answer. Allison would lead the panthers down the field. The drive would be capped of by a 9 yard touchdown run by Senior running back Chad Buzzard. It was like deja vu because the next two touchdown drives would start and end like the first with Buzzard running it in. The Panthers defense was all over the place and would not give the Vikings an inch to work with. With the panthers up 21-0 we would head into halftime.

If the Vikings felt like the had any hope to make a comeback it would quickly be diminished. On the opening kickoff Senior safety, Chayton Schafer, would take it 80 yards to bring the score to 28-0. The Panthers would throw one more punch in the 3rd quarter with a 7 play, 70 yards touchdown drive topped of by a 7-yard run by Allison. The Vikings would throw a punch of their own in the fourth with 11 yard passing touchdown, but would miss the extra point. The game would end with Panthers victorious over the vikings 35-6. Some of the key performers from the game were: Chad Buzzard, Pierson Allison, Chayton Schafer, and the entire Panthers defense.

The Panthers look to build on this performance next week when they travel to Hiwassee, Georgia to take on the Towns County Indians (1-0).

Union Keeps it Rolling

TeamFYNSports

The Union County Panthers made history Friday night. Football has been around Union County for 60 plus years and no team has ever won more then 9 games in a row. However, Friday night this would change.

Union County would travel to Lexington, Georgia Friday to take on the Ogelthorpe County Patriots. The Panthers came out with their foot on the pedal and did not let up all night. The Patriots would receive the ball, but the Panthers defense would force them to a 3-and-out. The high powered scoring Union County offense would take the field to get things rolling. They would march down the field and finish the drive off with a two yard touchdown run by Chad Buzzard. Union’s next offensive drive would be the exact same to put the Panthers ahead 14-0 after the 1st quarter. The second quarter the Patriots still could not get much going, but Union would pull away. A 21 yard touchdown run by Jonah Daniel, a 15 yard receiving touchdown, and a 8 yard rushing touchdown by Chayton Schafer would stretch the Panthers lead to 35-0 at the half.

The Panthers would start the second half just like they are started two other halfs this season. Kannon Hemphil would take the opening kickoff 60 yards to the house to bring the score to 42-0. Union would start making substitutions to get starters out and let young guys get some experience. Jonah Daniel would score another rushing touchdown in the fourth and Peyton Ivester would put one in the box also. The young guys on a defense would hold the Patriots to 0 points to give the Panthers their 2nd shut out of the season. History was made Friday Night by the Panthers after their 56-0 win. The Panthers have won 10 games straight breaking the previous school record of 9 straight. Congrats to Brian Alison and his Panthers.

Preseason Clash At The Mike

UCHS Football

The Union County Panther (AA) took on the Habersham Central Raiders(AAAAAA) in a preseason scrimmage last night in Blairsville, Georgia. Both teams were looking to get some great practice in while competing like a regular game and they did not disappoint. The Raiders struck first with a 40 yard passing touchdown in the first quarter, but then it would be all Panthers for the rest of that quarter. The Panthers would drive the ball 70 yards and cap it off with a Pierson Allison 10 yard throw to Kanon Hemphill to get the Panthers even with the Raiders. The defense would come up big for the Panthers on the next possession.

With the Raiders driving, Union forced the quarterback to make a bad throw which resulted in a Chayton Schafer interception. Schafer’s interception set the Panthers up for a quick drive, resulting in a touchdown run by Chad Buzzard. The Raiders would answer on the next two possessions with two rushing touchdowns of their own. Union got the ball back before halftime and quarterback Pierson Allison did what he does best, make things happen. Pierson made a fantastic throw on 4th down to Cayden Rich to keep the drive alive. The drive would end with a touchdown pass to Chayton Schafer. This would take the two teams to halftime with three scores each.

Union County would get the ball after halftime and it would not take long for them to score. Allison found Kyle Morlock for a 25 yard touchdown to cap a 6 play drive. The Raiders would answer yet again with two more touchdowns of their own. This would conclude the varsity playing time and now the younger guys would get a chance to showcase their talent.

Quarterback Holden Heltcher would lead the Panthers on a long drive ending in a rushing touchdown by Payton Ivester. The younger Panthers defense would not budge or break which would take the game to the end of regulation. With the clock reading 0:00 the Panthers and Raiders would both end with 5 touchdowns each. The score was not kept because of it being a scrimmage. The Panthers looked very promising and will look to build on this moving into the regular season opener against East Hall on August 24th in Blairsville, GA. Go Panthers!

Player of The Week-Jackson Colwell

Player of the Week, TeamFYNSports

The Panthers defensive has been impressive all season and that has a lot to do with Middle Linebacker, Jackson Colwell. Colwell has put up impressive stats and Friday was no different. Jackson had 13 tackles, 3 assists, and 3 tackles for loss against the Patriots. Congrats to Jackson and the Panthers on a great season so far!

Panthers Tame the Leopards

TeamFYNSports

After a much needed bye week for the Panthers, it would not take them long to get things rolling again. The Banks County Leopards would travel to the mountains of Blairsville Friday night to take on your Union County Panthers. This was a huge region 8-AA match up for the Panthers. Just like most games this season the offense would explode earlier and often.

Union County would win the coin toss and elect to receive the ball to start the game and it was a great call by the Head Coach. Pierson Allison would come out throwing the ball all over the Leopards. The drive would result in a 35 yard receiving touchdown by Junior, Sawyer Drake. Then the high flying Panthers defense would take the field against the old school wing T offense Banks runs. Union would not budge a bit forcing Banks to a 3 and out on their first 4 possessions.

The second possession for the Panthers on Offense would go in the same direction as the first one. Pierson would work his magic just like all year and finish it off with a 14 yard touchdown strike to Kyle Morlock. Chayton Schafer would be the answer to the Panther’s 3rd touchdown when he caught a 25 yard pass. This would bring a end to the 1st quarter with the Panther’s leading 21-0. The second quarter would be similar. Kyle Morlock would catch another touchdown and Pierson would take one in from 54 yards out. Banks would answer making the score 35-7 at the half.

The old school wing T would eat 10 minutes of the 3rd quarter up and would end in a touchdown for Banks county. Howevere, with two minutes left in the 3rd the Panthers would take the ball down the field and score on another rushing touchdown by Pierson Allison. This would end the 3rd with the panthers leading 42-14. The 4th quarter would be a time for the Panthers to get some young guys in. Jonah Daniel would score on a 16 yard rushing touchdown on his first carry. Banks would eat the rest of the clock up and get them a field goal. When the final buzzer rang the Panthers came out on top 49-17. Union will travel to Ogelthorpe to take on the Patriots this Friday night.

Player of the Week-Chayton Schafer

Player of the Week, TeamFYNSports

The heart and soul of the Union County Panthers football team is, Senior Chayton Schafer. Chayton is a factor in all 3 parts of the game(offense, defense, special teams.) This was the same Friday night against Banks County. Chayton had a 25 yard receiving touchdown on the offensive side of the ball and on the other side of the ball he had 7 tackles and two interceptions. Congratulations to Chayton and the Panthers!

Player Of The Week-Sawyer Drake

Player of the Week, TeamFYNSports

The Panthers are coming off a huge region win against the Putnam County War Eagles, 55-0. Obviously you could give the player of the week to the whole starting defense, but it is hard when a player puts up stats like Sawyer Drake did. The Junior Wide Receiver had 5 catches for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns. Congratulations to the Panthers and Sawyer Drake on huge win!

Panthers Make Opening Statement in 8-AA

TeamFYNSports

Union County was faced with many different adversities Friday night, but the Panthers rose to the occasion in fashion. The biggest adversity other then having to drive 3 hours and playing in 90 degree weather was not having the heart and soul of the defense not being able to play (Chayton Schafer). However, Junior Defensive Back, John Mancuso, stepped up and was key to the Panthers victory Friday night.

The Panthers would start the game very slow on offense with the first 2 possessions resulting in turnovers, but Pierson Allison would not let this turn of events go on for long. Allison would take over the and lead the offense down the field on five different occasions. The Panthers threw for over 220 yards, but the most impressive stat was they rushed for 260 and all 5 touchdowns were rushing touchdowns. Union’s defense had a big task this week with Monticello’s quarter back. The Panthers did a great job containing him for the most part and only allowing 22 points with 8 of them coming late in the fourth quarter. Union County will look to build on the 38-22 win over Monticello as they prepare for the Putnam County War Eagles. Everyone come out Friday Night to help cheer the Panthers on at 7:30 and enjoy the festivities of Homecoming.

Player of the Week-Pierson Allison

Player of the Week, TeamFYNSports

Pierson Allison has been  putting up video game numbers the first 3 weeks and this week was no different. The Junior signal caller was 19-28 for 284 yards passing and rushed for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Congrats to Pierson Allison and the rest of the Panthers on a big region win!

The Legacy Continues

Business

The Union County Panthers(1-0) took on the Towns County Indians(1-0) in a non-conference match up last night in Hiwassee, Georgia. This rivalry series has been on halt the last 3 years, but was finally re-instated this year.

Junior Quarter back, Pierson Allison, did what he does on the next possession. He would lead the Panthers offense down the field and find Junior wide receiver, Kyle Morlock, for a 3o yard touchdown. The Panthers defense would come up big on the next possession. Senior,Ean Harkins, would pick off a Indian pass to set up a Panthers scoring drive topped of by Chad Buzzard leaping over a defender for a rushing touchdown.

The Panthers offense would keep it going with a reverse to Junior, Sawyer Drake, for a 22 yard touchdown. Union County’s defense was not done just yet. Senior, Ean Harkins, would pick off another pass and return this one for a Panthers touchdown. Before half, Brian Smith would kick a 27 yard field goal and Buzzard would score another rushing touchdown  to bring the score to 38-7 in favor of the Panthers at the break.

The second half would be pretty quite for both offenses until the fourth when Allison connected with Drake for a 37 yard screen for a touchdown. The game would end quick due to a running clock. The Panthers would win the game 45-7 and bring their record to 2-0. Union County will return home to take on the Fannin County Rebels at Mike Memorial Stadium next Friday. stats towns 2018
