Mr. John Arthur Ehlers Sr., age 72, of Murphy, NC, passed into the eternal care of his Lord on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. A member of Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church, John was born in Buffalo, NY, to the late Arthur Joseph & Dorothy Lillian Hamilton Ehlers, on April 6, 1947. He will be forever remembered as a loving husband and father, as well as, Vietnam Vet, Truck Driver, Musician, and family man. More than these he will be remembered for his kind, caring, funny, and all around irresistible personality. He enjoyed telling stories about his one million miles accident free and cracking jokes that would bring a whole room to laughter. He will be remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his loving wife, Elizabeth Marie McCue Ehlers; children, Shannon Renee Ehlers, Robert Steven (Hilary) Ehlers, Megan Elizabeth Ehlers, John Arthur Ehlers Jr., and Dawn Marie Cannon. Also sharing in his legacy are two grandchildren, Andrew Ehlers and Sabrina Ehlers.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, October 11, 2019, from Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville, NC.

Mrs. Ethel Bramlett Seabolt, age 91 of Blue Ridge, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Life Care Center of Copper Basin. Mrs. Seabolt was born May 14, 1928, in Margaret, Ga. to the late Bruce Bramlett and the late Velma Hunt Bramlett. She was a member of Salem # 1 Baptist Church and had served as Treasurer there for several years. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and was an avid Atlanta Braves and NASCAR fan. She was preceded in death by husband, Silvey Emmett Seabolt, daughter-in-law, Mary Seabolt, brothers, Eston Bramlett, and Hubert Bramlett, son, Michael Seabolt.

Survivors include: sons, Jerry (Sandie) Seabolt, and Robin Seabolt, daughter, Karen (Richard) Rice, daughter-in-law, Pat Seabolt, sister, Evelyn Bramlett Panter, grandchildren, Adam Seabolt, Jessica Heaton, Matthew Seabolt, Jody Seabolt, Jennifer Pope, Alex Hierlmeier, Thomas Rice, and James Rice, great-grandchildren, Candace Seabolt, Easton Seabolt, Owen Seabolt, Dawson Heaton, Blake Heaton, Ava Rice, Madison Stanley, Jaelyn Pope, Ayla Seabolt,Jessie Dorman, Jacob Seabolt and
Joy Seabolt.

Funeral services: Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Padget and Rev. Tim Garrett officiating. Music provided by Ruth Bramlett. Interment will follow in Salem #1 Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Adam Seabolt, Matthew Seabolt, Thomas Rice, James Rice, Jody Seabolt, Jonathan Heaton, Chis Pope, Chris Hierlmeier.

Ms. Connie (Hope) Dye, age 60 of Truett Camp Rd. Hayesville, NC passed away peacefully on September 24, 2019 in the Northeast GA Medical Center of Gainesville. Connie was born on July 19, 1959, the daughter of the late Vergal Dye & the late Willabell Payne. She is preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Dye, and a sister, Carolyn Chambers. Connie enjoyed taking care of anyone that was in need, as well as spending time with her beloved dog, Patches. Connie was a lifelong resident of Clay County. She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Ms. Dye are  three sons and daughters-in-law, Jason & Danielle Dye of Hiawassee, GA., Rondal & Shannon Lovingood of Murphy, NC., Randy & Angel Lovingood of Hayesville, NC., and a daughter, Meletha Hoopaugh of Hayesville, NC. The following grandchildren also survive; Lane Davis, Mitchell Hamby, Jonathan Hamby, Tristen Lovingood, Brelynn Lovingood, Silas Lovingood, and Alexis Arrowood.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 5, 2019 at 2:00pm from the Moss Memorial Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC with rev. Charlie Shelton officiating. Jon Phillip Hunkler: Obituary

Mr. Jon Phillip Hunkler age 83 of Bald Mtn. Creek Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 11, 2019 following an extended illness. Mr. Hunkler was born on Feb. 6, 1936 in St. Louis, MO., the son of the late Robert Hunkler and the late Ann Simon Hunkler.  He was a veteran of the US National Guard. Jon loved mowing grass, fishing and being outdoors and loved the mountains. Jon was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Jon are his lifelong friend, Nancy Collins of Blairsville, two sons, Jon M. Hunkler of St. Louis, MO., Mark D. Hunkler of Poplar Bluff, MO., longtime friend, Michael Collins of Blairsivlle, two nephews, Robbie Rothweiler of St. Louis and Allan Rothweiler of St. Louis, many other relatives and friends also survive.

As per Jon’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. Interment will be held in the St. Luke’s Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.  In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Old Liberty Baptist Church in Jon’s memory.

Ms. Nancy Gertrude Wilbanks age 78 of Ellijay, GA passed away peacefully at her home following an extended illness. Ms. Wilbanks was born on October 1, 1940 in Atlanta, GA., the daughter of the late Elbert Holloway and the late Vanita Carroll. Nancy had a personality that would light up the room. Nancy enjoyed canning and spending time with her dog, Baby Boy. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and sister. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Sheila Allen & Theresa Mello, two brothers, Benny Joe Holloway & Austin Holloway, and two grandchildren, Josh Anderson & Jacob Patterson. Ms. Wilbanks was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Ms. Wilbanks is three daughters and one son-in-law, Debbie & David Kitchen of Ellijay, GA., Denise Johnston of Ellijay, GA., and Shirley Patterson of Blairsville, GA., a son & daughter-in-law, Darrell & Shelly Allen of Blairsville, GA., three brothers and a sister-in-law, Harvey Holloway of Milner, GA., Hughlee & Juanita Holloway of Milner, GA., and J.D. Holloway of Blairsville, GA., grandchildren, Haley Thomas, Tonya Thomas, Marsha McBride, Renea Greene, Norman Thomas, Savannah Kitchen, Stacey Kitchen, Shannon Ledford, Crystal Anderson, Kevin Patterson, Aaron Patterson, Dalton Allen, Derrick Allen, Amanda Long, and Jessie Allen. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, & nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 4, 2019 at 3:00pm from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hubert Legg officiating. Special music will be presented by Savannah & Stacy Kitchen. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, David Kitchen, Shane McBride, Ricky Hughes, Joseph Culver, Charlie Culver, and Arnold Patterson. The following gentleman will also serve as honorary pallbearers, Charles Culver and Mitchell Hughes. Interment will follow in Dillard’s Chapel Cemetery. Ronald Edward Harkins: Obituary

Mr. Ronald Edward Harkins age 69 of Oak Tree Village Park Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home with his brother Roger by his side on Friday August 30, 2019 following an extended illness. Mr. Harkins was born on August 16, 1950 in Atlanta, GA., the son of the late Robert Lee Harkins and the late Lottie Pearl White Harkins. He was a veteran of the US Marines of the Vietnam War. Ronald loved doing mechanic work, reading, especially Military and paperback books. Ronald was always supporting veteran’s organizations.  He was preceded in death by his parents and also three brothers, George Harkins, Richard E. White and Bobby Lee Harkins and two sisters, Roselyn Harkin and Linda Sullivan and also a sister in law, Azaline Harkins. He was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Ronald attended Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Harkins are four children, Ronald, Gregory, Roselyn and Jodie Harkins all of NY., one brother, Roger Harkins of Blairsville, three sisters, Jackie Mae Davis of Rome, GA., Phyllis Bell and Carolyn Moulder both of Cartersville, GA., several grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Albert Peter Dyke age 75 of West Wood Ave. Blairsville passed away from Alzheimer’s Disease on Tuesday August 27, 2019. Albert was born on October 27, 1943 in the Netherlands, the son of the late Peter Dyke and the late Jacoba Veebaas Dyke. Albert’s occupation was a boat captain and he traveled the world extensively. His passion was riding motorcycles. He came to Blairsville seven years ago to enjoy  mountain life and to be with his brother and sister in law, Ted and Terri.

Surviving Albert are one brother and sister in law, Ted Dyk and Terri Reilly of Blairsville, two sisters and one brother in law, Melinda Haak of Richmond, WA., Sylvia and Doug Ludwick of West Palm Beach, FL., several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Dalvin James Barbour age 71 of Cutcane Rd. Mineral Bluff passed away peacefully on Monday August 26, 2019 in the Northside Hospital following an extened illness. Mr. Barbour was born on December 17, 1947 in Stockbridge, MI., the son of the late Dalvin J. Barbour and the late Mildred Hodge Barbour. Dalvin was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and loved his family with all of his heart. He enjoyed working and cars and his passion was collecting flashlights. Mr. Barbour was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mr. Barbour are his loving wife and best friend of fifty years, Carolyn Franklin Barbour of Mineral Bluff, one son, Richard (Rebecca Havron) Barbour of Adrian, MI., two daughters and sons in law, Laurie and Milton Ross of Mineral Bluff, Janie Lou and Bryan Wright of Ellijay, GA., longtime caretaker and friend, Rose Smith of Ellijay, seven grandchildren, Matthew Barbour, Samantha and Andrew Burgess, Kevin (Brittany) Barbour, Tiffany (Andrew) Plemons, Kelly (Joshua) Garrett, T.J. (Kayla) Ross, Kolleen Ross, seven great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Edward Minor Powell, Jr., age 82, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019, at home surrounded by family.

Born August 10, 1937, to Edward Minor Powell, Sr. and Opal Hull Powell in Arcadia, Florida. He grew up in Sarasota, Florida, where he met his wife, Glenda, and raised his family. He was a land surveyor, later worked in the mobile home industry and was also a private gun dealer. In 1997, he and his wife moved to Mineral Bluff where he enjoyed his gun collection, woodworking, spending time outdoors, and time with family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glenda Bush Powell; daughter, Lane Powell; son, Kenneth Powell (Vicki); granddaughter, Lindsey Powell; grandson, Luke Powell; sister, Alice Waldroup; aunt, Sherrill Dillinger; sister-in-law, Sue Bush, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He loved in-depth Bible teaching and was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Morganton and a former member of Grace Baptist Church of Sarasota, Florida.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Mineral Bluff. Visitation will be held at Temple Baptist Church in Morganton at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, followed by a memorial service at noon.

Vea (Veatrice) Floyt: Obituary

Obituaries

Vea (Veatrice) Floyt passed away on July 30, 2019. Vea is a native to Blairsville, GA.

She was born on August 6, 1947 to Charlie and Bernice Winn.
Her beautiful life included faith, family, friends, travel and the military, proudly serving in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) where she met the love of her life, Roger Floyt.

She was a kind, nurturing, comforting soul, mixed with wisdom, humor, grace, and a proud stubbornness and fierce independence that, along with her faith, carried her through tough times.
She will be dearly missed by all.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roger Floyt., parents Charlie and Bernice Winn, brother Ted Winn, and many other beloved family members.

She is survived by her son, James Floyt, daughter in law Vicki, grandchildren William and Olivia Floyt. Her daughter Kristen Falk, son in law Chet Falk, granddaughter Megan Hjelter, her husband Eric Hjelter, brother Don Winn, wife Helen Winn, daughters Jennifer Beaver and Kimberly Winn and numerous other extended family members and friends.

There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains.

A memorial of her life will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 1:00 pm at All Saints Lutheran Church located at 83 Earl Shelton Rd. Blairsville, GA. A small reception will follow.

Mr. Terry Glenn “Corky” Trapp age 46 of Old Dial Rd. Blue Ridge passed away peacefully on Sunday July 28, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Trapp was born on July 27, 1973 in Rome, GA., the son of Larry Glenn Trapp and Judy Carol Lumberg. Randy Lydall Trapp, Corky’s special friend, and first cousin, served as best man at his wedding. Randy also was Baptized the same day as Corky on July 25, 2019,  which was performed by Pastor Ed Philo in the home of Terry and Machelle Trapp. Corky had many brother like relationships within his forty six years of life. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Surviving Terry are his loving wife and best friend, Machelle Myers Trapp of Blue Ridge, mother, Judy Lumberg of Summerville, father,  Glenn Trapp of Summerville, two daughters, Jessica Darlene Trapp, Carry Meranda Trapp both of Summerville, stepsons, Dustin Ray Aaron Gowens of Calhoun, Ga, Timothy Tyler Gowens of Phoenix, AZ., Braden Dallas McAfee Rhymer of Dalton, two brothers, Scotty Trapp of Tryon, GA., Dee Gardener of Fairmount, grandchildren, Alaina Evelyn and Case Robert McCarty, Honesty Annalee Noles all of Summerville, Aria Rae Lynn Gowens, Aaron Lukas Russell  Gowens of Calhoun,Ga several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday August 3, 2019 at 5:00 pm from the Tilley Bend Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Philo officiating. The family will meet with friends following the services at the church with a reception to follow (Friends may bring a dish if you would like). Georgia Delores Corn Hooper: Obituary

Mrs. Georgia Delores Corn Hooper, age 98 of Salisbury, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to be reunited with loved ones on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Alpha Concord Plantation in Salisbury. She was born April 3, 1921 in Union County, Georgia to the late John Crowell Corn and Martha Jane Rich Corn. Her husband of over 50 years, Frank Woodrow Hooper and her son, Donald Frank Hooper, her sister, Ruby Corn Hooper and four brothers, Buell, Frank, Robert and Roy Corn all preceded
her in death.
Affectionately, called “Georgie”, she served her Lord well; teaching Sunday School for many years at Lakewood Baptist Church in Kannapolis, NC and later at South China Grove Baptist Church in China Grove. Upon her retirement from the washcloth dept. at Plant 1, Cannon Mills in 1978, she moved back home to Blairsville, GA and was instrumental in beginning a vacation bible school at her home church, New Harmony
Baptist in Blairsville. After the death of her husband, she relocated back to North Carolina to be close to her older son, Donald and his family in Salisbury. Georgia would daily eat lunch at the China Grove Civic Center where she would jokingly say, “she just went to cheer up the old folks.” After an illness and a fall in 2014, Georgia moved to Alpha Concord
Plantation in Salisbury and was lovingly care for by the wonderful staff there.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Harold Wayne Hooper and his wife Dorella, from Albuquerque, NM, and her daughter in-law, Shirley Hooper of Salisbury. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ron Hooper (Veronica), Tammy Hooper, Sandra Kiker, Randel Hooper (Courtney), Betty Fowler (Mark), Kevin Hooper (Juli) and Scott Hooper (Missy). Also surviving her are half-sisters, Mattie B. Chappelear and Althea Pickelsimer (Nelson) and half-brothers, Johnny Corn (Carolyn) and Bill Corn (Betty) along with two sisters in-law, Edith Corn and Kay Corn and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Mrs. Hooper was held on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. A second visitation will be held at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00pm.
Funeral service will be at New Harmony Baptist Church in Blairsville on
Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev. Phil Goble, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC, Georgia’s former pastor. Mr. William George Mason age 74 of Dogwood Drive Blairsville passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 23, 2019 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Mason was born on Feb. 12, 1945 in Murphy, NC., the son of the late William Mason and the late Oma Long Mason. William retired from the Union County Nursing Home after many years of service. His favorite pastime was watching his T.V. and he enjoyed fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Mason was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Mason are his loving wife, Sandra Cook Mason of Blairsville, his step children, Jason Seabolt, Amanda Spooner, Eric Seabolt, Ashley Seabolt all of Blairsville; sister, Ruth Ledford; sister-in-law Jessie Mason; nieces Peggy Robinson, Pam DeLong; nephews Kenny Nichols, Mike Nichols; great nephews, Travis Robinson, Shawn Robinson all of Hayesville, eight step grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
