Mrs. Beth Haupt of Garrett Circle, Blairsville passed away on Friday August, 3, 2018 at the Union County Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She was born on May, 19, 1931 in Cochran, Ga. to the late Toombs and Madge Cook Kimbrough. Beth was a librarian for the Dougherty County Public Library for many years, she moved with her daughter, Donna & son-in-law Mike, to live in the beautiful l North Georgia Mountains .
Beth is survived by her sons and daughter in law Bill and Stephanie Stewart of Burke Va.,Rodney Stewart of Leesburg Ga. daughters Donna and Mike Gurr of Blairsville, Ga. LaWanna and Roxy Wishum of Montgomery Al. She is also survived by 9 Grandchlidren, 18 Great Grandchlidren and 1Great-Great Grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 11 at 4:00 pm at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with the Rev. George Cline officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 on Saturday preceding the service. Interment will be held on Monday August 13, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Cedar Hills Cemetery in Cochran , Ga. Visitation will be held at the Fisher Funeral Home of Cochran Ga. from 10:00 until service time.

Charlotte Ann Watson: Obituary

Mrs. Charlotte Ann Watson age 74 of Chattahoochee Drive Blairsville formerly of Orlando, FL. unexpectedly passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday August 1, 2018. Mrs. Watson was born on November 7, 1943 in Orlando, FL., the daughter of the late James Clark and the late Vertie Mae Batchelor. Charlotte loved quilting in her spare time and was faithful to her Wednesday Night Bingo games and all the friends she met there. At the time of her death she was employed at Ingles where she worked for the past seven years. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and also a brother, Dallas Bickerton. Charlotte was of the Church of God faith.
Surviving Mrs. Watson are one daughter and son in law, Patricia and Everett Squire of Blairsville, one son and daughter in law, Gene and Jane Hurtt of Sorrento, FL., two brothers, Keith and Joseph Clark both of Orlando, one grandson, Brandon and Kalee Hurtt, one great grandson, Karson Hurtt all of Orlando, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Watson’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on that Saturday from 5-6:00 pm.

Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Annie Jane Golden Brewer, age 92, of Blairsville, who passed away on Thursday, July 5th, 2018 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mrs. Brewer was born in Athens, Tennessee, and was the daughter of the late Gordon and Laura Abernathy Golden. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and had been preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Brewer. Mrs. Brewer had also been preceded in death by two sisters: Marie Thomas and Bertha Nari; two brothers, J.M. Golden and Ralph Golden; and a sister-in-law, Leona Golden.
Family members that are left to treasure their memories of Mrs. Brewer include: daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Roger McAlphin, of Blairsville; two grandchildren: Tyson Lovett and Drew McAlphin and his wife Tina; great grandson, Andrew McAlphin and great granddaughter, Annie McAlphin.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Sunday, July 8th, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Cecil. The family will meet with friends on Sunday at the funeral home, starting at 2:00 p.m., before the services start at 3:00 p.m.

Robert Michael Schaaf: Obituary

Robert Michael Schaaf, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on June 26, 2018. Robert was born in Akron, Ohio, in August 1936. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1958 in Germany. He received a degree in Math from the University of Akron and an MBA from Florida Atlantic University.
Robert worked for Eastern Airlines in Miami, Florida, as a Systems Analyst and Scheduling Manager and retired in 1991. He greatly enjoyed the challenges of performing the complex system programming needed to adapt IBM mainframe computers to support airline operations. After moving to Blairsville, Georgia, in 1993, he joined the Union County Road Department as a clerk and database administrator – a supposedly short-term employment which lasted 17 years. Robert loved this job and the employees with whom he worked.
Robert was predeceased by his parents Raymond Michael and Elizabeth Naomi Schaaf, an infant brother, George, and his beloved beagle Bentley. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Edith Carolyn Schaaf (Gardiner) and by his daughters and son-in-laws Peggy and Bryan Thomas, Diane Schaaf, Laurie and Charles Black, Mary Louise and William Romano, and Karen Schaaf, and his son and daughter-in-law Robert and Melissa Schaaf, sister Mary Louise Fromm. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday July 7th at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with Father Gaurav Shorff. He will be interred at the Veterans Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Monday July 9, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association or the Salvation Army. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1-2:00 pm.
Robert was well-loved by all who met and knew him. His favorite past-time in retirement was eating breakfast and jawboning with the folks at the Griddle Cafe & Deli in Blairsville.

Dorothy Mae Barber Hunnicutt (“Sissy”): Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Barber Hunnicutt (“Sissy”), formerly of St. Petersburg, Fl., passed away on June 05, 2018, was born on March 23, 1924, in Annapolis, Md., Anna Rundal County, and the daughter of Robert E. Barber and Sidney Fontaine Barber.
Mrs. Hunnicutt was the widow of Warren Hunnicutt, Jr., who died in May of 2011.
Surviving are loving sons Warren Hunnicutt, IV, and Kyle (Blairsville, Ga.); two granddaughters, Kelly and Erin (St. Petersburg, Fl.); a grandson, Damian (Blairsville, Ga.); a nephew, Hunter vonHof, his wife, Dawn and daughter, Hannah (Blairsville, Ga.); and a sister-in-law, Margaret Hunnicutt (of St. Petersburg, Fl.).
Mrs. Hunnicutt graduated from Sophie B. Wright School and Business College in New Orleans, La., (becoming an expert comptometer operator) and attended the “House of Prayer” church in Blairsville, Ga.
She and her husband were avid tennis players, and both continued to be fans of the game throughout their lives. “Sissy” was a real estate saleswoman in St. Petersburg, Fl., and she, with a good friend, were involved in serving “Meals on Wheels” in St. Pete for many years.
“Sissy” and her husband traveled throughout the U.S. (always with their tennis racquets) while he taught Real Estate Appraisal courses in 26 state colleges and universities, Amsterdam, Nassau and the Bahamas. Always the animal lover, “Sissy” was never without a dog.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Interment and graveside services will be in St. Petersburg, Fl., at Royal Palm Cemetery on Tuesday June 12, 2018 at 11:00 am. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11-2:00 pm prior to the services. Mrs. Bernice Jane Carder Warren age 81 of Mariposa Lane Blairsville passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday June 4, 2018 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Warren was born on October 1, 1936 in Blairsville, GA., the daughter of the late Clifford Grover Carder and the late Nellie Jane Payne Carder. She was a lifelong resident of Union and Barrow Counties. Bernice loved growing flowers, gardening, traveling spoiling her grandchildren and especially shopping. She was a loving and caring mother, sister and grandmother. In her early years, she was a Para Pro at Hosenbeck Elementary School in Winder for several years, worked for the State Defense Force for the Georgia Army National Guard, than she was employed with the Union County Nursing Home and Stonehenge Assisted Living for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Rufus Warren in 1992 and two brothers, Joseph and Glenn Carder. Mrs. Warren was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Warren are one daughter, Susan Warren of Blairsville, three sons and daughters in law, Doug and Penny Warren of Winder, Steve and Sharon Warren of Speedwell, David and April Warren of Blairsville, one sister and brother in law, Winnie and Ray Hull of Franklin, GA., ten grandchildren, Amanda Barclay, Jonathan Barclay, Nathaniel Otto, Lindsey and Jacob Disney, Elizabeth and John Speir, Christopher and Rachel Warren, Andrew and Becca Warren, Johnny and Emily Warren, Teresa Warren and Grace Warren, three great grandchildren, Briana Ricker, Sydney Beasley and Tzeitel Warren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Greg Bailey officiating. Special songs will be presented by Leslie Hughes and Lindsey Disney and music by Michelle Rowe. The following will serve as pallbearers, Jonathan Barclay, Andrew Warren, Johnny Warren, Nathaniel Otto, John Speir, Christopher Warren, Jacob Disney, Sydney Beasley, and Amanda Barclay. Interment will follow in the Barrow Memorial Gardens Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Johnny. Thomas Joseph Gray: Obituary

Mr. Thomas Joseph Gray age 72 of Blairsville passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday May 23, 2018 following an extended illness. Mr. Gray was born in Atlanta, GA., the son of the late William J. Gray and the late Evelyn L. Dorsey Gray. Thomas and his wife Jean loved playing the guitar and played in churches for several years. He enjoyed wood working in his spare time. He was preceded in death by his parents and also a stepson, Lee Clay. He was a veteran of the US Navy of the Vietnam War.
Surviving Mr. Gray are his loving wife and best friend Jean Gray of Blairsville, one sister, Susan Landers of Alabama, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mr. Elmore Martin Putney III of Blairsville passed away unexpectedly on May 21 2018. Martin was an attorney having practiced in the local area for several years. He enjoyed golf, dancing and cooking.
Surviving Mr. Putney are his son Luke Putney of Nashville Tn. mother Mrs. Patricia Dail Putney of Buford Ga. one brother and sister in law Paul and Bonny Putney of Buford Ga., many other friends and family including his beloved cousin DeAnna.

Mr. Joel Scott Bailey age 52 of McCaysville, GA., passed away suddenly at his home on Monday May 7, 2018. Born on July 16, 1965 in Middletown, CT., the son of Mariann Bailey Glass and the late Carlton Lewis Bailey. Joel was of the Catholic faith and loved Jesus. Tinkering with vehicles and logging was his joy until health issues and impending blindness overcame him. Joel was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Bailey of CT, a son, Matthew Bailey of CT., his father, Carlton Lewis Bailey of NH., grandparents, Mildred and Walter Markiewicz of East Hampton, CT., Donald and Myrtle Rhodes of Winchester, NH., uncle, Robert Markowicz of Old Say Brook, CT.
Surviving Joel are his mother and step father, Mariann and David Glass of McCaysville, GA., his cousins, Scott and Eva Footit of Berlin, CT., David Footit of Middlefield, CT., Ron and Michelle Footit of FL., loving aunt and uncle, Lorraine and Charles Footit of Middlefield, CT., also of Florida, Cousins, Sheryl and Sal Yevoli, Dorothy and Don Layman. Good friends, Rosie Morse, Dan and Sharon Carlisle, plus many other cousins and friends, past and present.

Mrs. Millie H. Kimble age 88 of Murphy Hwy. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday April 28, 2018 at the Union General Nursing Home following an extended illness. Millie was born on March 15, 1930 to the late Jim and Cleo King Henderson. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. Millie enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a avid fan of the Atlanta Braves. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Jim Kimble, four brothers, Harold, Blaine, Wayne, and Bennie Henderson.
Surviving Mrs. Kimble are two daughters and one son in law, Susie and Bill Hyatt of Young Harris Ga. Kathy Cothren of Blairsville Ga., step daughter Peggy Poe and a step son Arie Kimble and three grandchildren Jessica Johnson, Johnathan Hyatt ,Kim Burrell and 3 great grandchildren, Adrian Morerland, Noel Hyatt, Aiden Hyatt, many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Nancy Jane Henderson age 73 of No Where Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday April 21, 2018 in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Henderson was born on May 30, 1944 in Murphy, NC., the daughter of the late Crede Reid and the late Mamie Floyd Reid. Before her retirement she had been a CNA for many years. She was a loving mother, sister and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Henderson in 1977 and a brother Clyde Reid. Nancy was a member of the Fields of the Woods Church of God.
Surviving Mrs. Henderson are one son and daughter in law, Kevin and Angie Henderson of Blairsville, one daughter, Kelly Henderson of Blairsville, three brothers and sisters in law, Jack and Louise Reid of Hiawassee, Bill and Debbie Reid of Benton, TN., Louis and Kathy Reid of Murphy, four grandchildren, Jonas and Sherlann Henderson, Chloe Henderson, Cole Sparks, Taylor and Rob Weeden, one great grandchild, Stella, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday April 23, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Rodney Campbell officiating. Special music will be presented by Melissa and Stephanie Reid . The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jonas Henderson, Cole Sparks, Brian Reid, Eric Reid, Eli McClure and Joey Reid. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris and Adam Reid . Interment will follow in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband Benny. Mr. Gerald “Wayne” Newton of Jewell Mason Road Blairsville passed away on Wednesday April 18, 2018 at his home after an extended illness. Wayne was born on April 23, 1937 to the late David and Opel Benton Newton. Wayne loved woodworking, singing, fishing and being with family and friends. Wayne was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde Allie Stoutamire in 1996, her daughter, Sandra Stoutamire, five brothers, John, Clifford, Marion, Homer and Louis Lambert Jr. and two sisters, Mary Maude Higdon and Natalie Cason. Mrs. Stoutamire was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tallahassee.
Surviving Mrs. Stoutamire are one son, Jerry Stoutamire of Blairsville, step daughter, Barbara Sue and Charles Wingfield of Micanopy, FL., four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Gabe Neely, Jason M. Stoutamire and fiancée, Sarah Woolard, David C. and Carolyn Burton, Bryce L. and Keszia Hale, four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Edgardo Gomez: Obituary

Mr. Edgardo Gomez age 59 of Fern Point Drive Toccoa, GA. passed away peacefully on Friday March 30, 2018 in the Stephens County Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Gomez was born on May 8, 1958 in San Juan Puerto Rico, the son of Carmen Diaz and the late Nestor Gomez. Edgardo had lived in New York for the past forty years and moved to Toccoa two years ago to be with his family. Egaro loved music, especially Salsa. He also enjoyed basketball and loved collecting shoes. He was a loving and caring son, brother and uncle.
Surviving Mr. Gomez are his mother, Carmen Gomez of Toccoa, one sister and brother in law, Vilmarie and Phillip Nixon of Toccoa, three nephews, Felipe, Yaddiel and Ezra Nixon all of Toccoa, many other relatives and friends also survive.
